Interesting. I have more respect for bosses who take employees at their word and don’t automatically assume people are lying.

Didn't assume, person posted they were partying and texted co worker they had a hangover.
You sound fun.

I am fun!
Maybe they are sick? It is flu season, and unless they do this often maybe chill on the judgement until you know more?
That stinks if they really are sick. Not only do they have to deal with being sick, but with a boss who doesn’t trust them.
Also- when did sick days become working from home days
Looks like someone is not a good boss and have lack of trust towards his/her employees 🙊
I hope they lied to you and actually had an interview, and it went really well.
Here's to hoping
The ironic thing is that people like OP is the reason why bugs spread through an office killing productivity. All the whilst thinking they are better than everyone.

Nope. I'm the first one to tell my team stay the f home if you are sick, I dont want your germs. This person isnt on my team.
If they aren’t sick: maybe they’re scared of your judgey reaction so they felt the need to make a white lie. If that’s the case you need to re-evaluate your management style.
God, can you please get a grain of self-awareness here and consider that you’re sounding like a monster in every terrible response you give? This is not the hill you want to die on.
Reading the comments over here like...🍿👀

I feel you. I'm over here feeling bad for the those that are pissy with me because of their experiences. They all assumed I was assuming the person wasn't sick. I'm the first person who wants people to stay home of they don't feel well or if they just dont feel like going to work that day. Then I get I should have explained the background, defended why I felt like this. Nope. Instead I'm reading the comments while I'm home "sick - wfh" on a friday so I can have a long weekend.
I am so confused by this post. What’s making your butt hurt here?
Who cares? Did the world end that day? Of course they won't tell you they're hangovered, you are their boss. As PMO leader you should best know how to navigate, nurture and grow relationships. Build a great report with your team and they will go the extra mile for you. Also a reminder, you are falling on a sword for a bunch of suits who won't blink an eye if they have to let you or your team go. Just a perspective.
I'd bet $20 that you work for Digitas.
Hey now, I was a Digitas PM and wasnt like this. Don't lump us all in.
People take time off. People get hangovers. You zig, you zag. That's what PM is supposed to help manage.
Some days my IBS acts up and I don’t want to constantly run to the toilet and embarrass myself. Would you rather this employee go into great detail such as that? I think “not feeling well” and offering to work at home rather than taking a sick day is just fine and you should be ok with it.
Grow up. Treat your employees like adults.
Wow people can’t be sick in the industry ?
Is their work late or not up to par? It’s literally flu season and we all work in open concept offices. I’d be grateful they stayed home. If the work is slipping then have a conversation. In an industry of extreme stress, feeling bad for being sick isn’t something to add to their plate.
One time I legit got the flu over super bowl Sunday and into Monday and was so scared about taking my sick day bc my manager was exactly like OP.

Hi all - not my subordinate, actually a lead. Same person who scheduled a client meeting for Tuesday, so team had to prep on Monday without direction from the person who owns the project. Same person who on Friday talked about the SB party they were going to attend. Same person who was posting all throughout the game. Same person who posted when they got home Sunday night how work was going to hurt the next day. Same person who was texting with another co worker on Monday they had the mother of all hangovers. Same person who has done this on multiple occasions.
If a person is sick, dont come to work. Even if you arent "sick" but need a day to not work, I'm all for it. But when your social media says otherwise that's were the loss of respect comes in.
And yes...the meeting did not go well.
I have a team to manage and I can tell you the lack of context was 100% the reason for the negative comments towards you OP
What does it matter if they are working? Work towards expressing yourself better so your team feels inspired and encouraged to share more openly with you, if that's what you desire.
It is national call out of work day!
Cause it would be the first time someone has ever decided to not go in the day after the superbowl.. chill
