This is just to rant lol. I love my mother in law but in small spread out doses. My husband wants her to come and stay with us for six months. She can be so extra, she complains when I don’t immediately respond to her Goodmorning WhatsApp messages, we are in different time zones for crying out loud. Now imagine that for six months!!

Is it common to take a base paycut to go work at a startup (1 YOE)? Got an offer for a really cool role at a series c startup that allows me to pivot career paths. Technically it’s a paybump with equity considered but obviously that would need to vest over time.

So I just had 2 tables fight in a restaurant. Table A coughed and table B said oh covid and laughed. Happens that table A is Asian and table B is white.
Table A assumed the joke is because they are Asian and table B says no, everyone got covid not just Asians it’s just a bad joke; who is right?
Table A escalated to a fight and had to be both separated and asked to leave. Who is right?

I had a student tell me that he was learning more English by playing a Clue-like game called, Among Us. He asked if I could host a game for the class. The next day, during a workshop, the speaker brought it up as well. I checked it out and it looks promising and would certainly hook the students. Has anyone tried this?

Is it worth it to teach ESL students terms like nouns and verbs when they need to learn to speak for communication and just gain vocabulary?

As an ESL teacher, do you ever feel forgotten by your school staff when it comes to Teacher Appreciation Week? Not that I have to get something, but....

Forgive me if this has already been addressed, but how do you handle teaching a student in an EOC course who does not speak any English? I feel like it is cruel to have them take an EOC in English.

Looking for advice....I work in a school with very low ESL population and those that are ELL are English speakers. I have had a couple newcomers over the years, but mostly in the lower grades. Just got my first and only 5th grade, non-English speaker. Would love some ideas on how to best server her. I am one teacher and currently only here 4 days a week. I have 35 other students.

Any Apps or websites that work for Spanish Speaking students with no English experience. I have used Duolingo, but I know there must be others out there!

What else can I do with a masters degree in ESL? I taught at 3 different schools in 3 years. The first two I resigned because they weren’t a good fit and this year I was non renewed despite my performance improving. I honestly don’t think teaching is for me

So, I have 1 class of SLIFE students (Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Ed). What are some good life skills to teach them to help them adapt? A lot of them will be able to work soon.

We have ESL students who speak languages like Mongolian that no one in our school speaks and can translate. How do I communicate with parents? How do I get them to feel more welcome/comfortable?
