Recently found out I’m pregnant. I’m going for a mid year promotion this December to manager and my baby would be due around then as well. When should I tell everyone at work about my pregnancy and how can I avoid letting it impact my promotion?

Just announce as your normally would without consideration of the promo. That should not impact the promo whatsoever

I was announced I was pregnant before I got a manager promotion (announced April, promo in July), and it didn’t have any effect. I work with mostly women and no one’s progression was effected by a maternity leave.

I suggest you talk to your coach and partners on the job to get a sense. I’m due very soon and year end evaluation would be around May this year in middle of my leave. I spoke with my coach and several partners/MD on jobs I’ve done last year during my 2nd trimester to set up an expectation. I acknowledged them I’ll work as hard as I can and ask if pregnancy would exclude me from promotion consideration. Then everyone confirms it would not and based on what they’ve seen in my performance they don’t think it’s a prob whether I’ll be promoted. Btw I was experienced hire last Jan. Then I made sure I perform as good as before in my main client past several months and I already have my managers and partner indicate I’ll sure get the promotion. Talk to people, perform well, indicate you want the promotion, I think that’s all you need to do

It shouldn’t affect your promotion. You’ll be showing you’re ready for it beforehand then hopefully are lucky enough to have the higher pay while on maternity leave. :) I’m going up for Partner as soon as I get back from my current maternity leave. If anything leadership won’t want to appear to be discriminating

In the exact same boat. Due October and am planning on promotion this year. Problem is I just had a baby last April so this will be round 2 of maternity leave in less than 2 years.

After getting promoted in Feb 2020 (lol fml) I designed and implemented a significant piece of data infrastructure that is beyond what’s expected of someone at my level. In 2021, I was not recognized for this accomplishment and a guy who knows nothing about the technology was promoted over me. It’s been a year since his promotion & the wheels are starting to come off: others are becoming increasingly aware of his ineptitude. What’s the best way to subtly pour gasoline on this fire?

I haven’t involved my mom in wedding planning much because she stresses me out. But today, I took her to my dress alterations appointment and she left pissed because I didn’t let her take pictures. She said I wasn’t creating the sweet mother daughter experience she had hoped for but that’s just not me. I even bought the dress by myself in the first place. Anyone else struggling with pleasing their mothers during wedding planning while staying sane?

I feel terrible. My mum and my husband both told me I am fat and need to lose weight ASAP. They were not trying to insult me, they both really think they have my best in interest. I am a mother of 11 months old twins, am still breastfeeding and currently have 11kg more than before pregnancy. I was always skinny and before pregnancy wore size 8. I feel so bad for hearing that, and feel like a failure on all levels.

We have our nanny a 10% pay raise in September to mark her two year anniversary with us (amounted to something like $2.50 more per hour). We were expecting (I was seven months pregnant at the time) and I told her it was (1) annual raise but (2) would also cover the fact that she’d be taking care of another baby. This morning she asks us whether we can talk about her raise now that she’ll be watching an extra kid. I awkwardly was like “well that’s what the prior raise covers” and she (contd)

Hey ladies. Can we take a second to talk about friendship? As a working mother of two that works from home, I’m finding it hard to making friends or maintaining friendships. How have you built your tribe of support and friendship as an adult? Can anyone relate?
