3 months seems wildly excessive. Is there legal ramifications for leaving earlier? in california it's at-will, either the employer or employee can decide to end it at any time.
3 months says in my promotion email received a few months ago. Company policy says at least one month or per hour contract. Minimum statutory notice period for me is 2 weeks
What level / country has a 3 month notice period?
I worked with some people in the UK and they said you put in your notice and you basically hang out and wrap up work for the 3 month time period but your plate of work is reduced quite a bit. Seems pretty legit to me. Sounds like it is kind of like being unstaffed but you still draw a pay check for months and no pressure.
I would wait until you sign the new job.
If prospective employer is aware of 3 months period And has no objections I’d wait until you get offer and sign

UK!
(Cont) the busy season.
If I resign today, and do my notice period of 3 months, I’ll be leaving 2 weeks before my main client but they may re staff thy job based on my resignation. Alternatively I can leave once it’s signed off.
Or if I resign today, do firms allow you to do a shorter notice period?
Don’t want to be out of job for a month around Christmas but also don’t want to do busy season. What’s the best time to resign in your view?
I know SM @ KPMG says 2 months, but I’ve seen cases where the notice says at your best convenience...then the company work on pulling them off their engagement and a transition plan...many left way before the 2 months
When you’re interviewing you tell them you have 3 months notice period, don’t resign until you’ve signed with new place, it’s quite common nowadays for people to leave in busy season and is what the 3 month period is for. If they can’t find a replacement in 3 months they are doing it wrong
Thanks guys! Accepted an offer as AVP (at manager level was hoping to go into VP role but it’s a new area so happy to start off as AVP for a year or so), and put in my notice. All partners took it very well. One of the key partners I work with on my busy season job requested if I could leave 10 days after my requested date to close off an engagement. I thought it was pretty reasonable request so put agreed to leave in 3m+1 week. It does seem I’ll end up doing another busy season job but at least it’s the last one. I’m not thrilled about doing late hours but at least those will be the last ones. Thoughts?
