Recently found out my wife is pregnant. I have not had her on my insurance but am now thinking it might be better to have her on mine. Can I put her on my insurance at any time during the pregnancy?

Answer is no. The baby being born is a life event, but not the pregnancy. Now if she quits her job and is off life insurance, then yes, you can add her.

like

Is pregnancy a qualifying event under your plan? Otherwise I don't think you can mid-year. Best to ask HR. If she's only 10 weeks along you might be able to switch her over at year end before the baby comes. Best of luck and health to you, mom and baby!

like

Typically the birth of a baby is a qualifying event. You may be able to make changes then. Always good to give HR a shout and see if they can provide more info

like

She has been pregnant for about 10 weeks now. Can't remember when we found out exactly but it has probably been longer than 30 days.

What insurance is she on now?

Usually you can only add people to your EY insurance during the open enrollment period, but there is an exception for “significant life events” (marriage, divorce, having kids etc.). Idk if the “event” is the pregnancy or the birth, though. I’d check with your people consultant.

It doesn’t matter what insurance she’s on now

Nope you can’t. But your baby will be covered.

Birth and adoption of a child are a life event. The 30 days after act like an open enrollment period for you. At that point you can add your wife and child to your health insurance, sign up for life insurance etc. I don't think you can make changes during the pregnancy.

If she is on her employer's plan and drops her plan during their open enrollment period. That is generally a qualifying event.

No I don’t believe that pregnancy qualifies so you would have to wait until open enrollment. However if she somehow loses her insurance coverage ie. loses her job then that would count as qualifying life event and then you could add her

Everyone here is right, pregnancy is not a qualifying event for a special enrollment period. When is EY’s plan year? Fingers crossed for you it’s a 6/30 year end....

I never noticed my typo, life insurance should have been health insurance. Anyway, I guess everyone figured that out.

Is it common in the industry for licensed insurance agents to not get any commissions on a referral in which you personally write the policy? Ex: If a current client refers a prospect to our team, I would not receive commission. Additionally, if I write a policy for friends/family I would get a small incentive but it’s a fraction of the commission producers make.
Management is considering changing this going forward. However, I’m not sure how I should react if they keep things how they are now.

Current contract - amazing company that has been vocal about bringing me on when approved but no promises. Contract is $60/hr. I negotiated high due to paying private health ins at high $. I was offered a role at a different company for $105K with a $5K sign on and additional benefits. I expressed my need for a $115K base in our original conversation. Anything less than 115K is a paycut from current $ and if I was offered FTE at current contract. Thoughts on negotiating? I dont want to be greedy
