Recently got a raise (putting me at 68k). Turned down an offer for 75k to stick it out and company said they can’t match. Management sup was laid off. Account director just quit. Need more $$. ADVICE?

So...why did you decide to stick it out?

like

75k is a lot for an AE. Ask them for a title change. Then go trade on the new Sup title on the open market.

like

Yeah, it sounds like you should leave

like

Def. look for another gig.

BYE FELICIA. An agencies health is first and formost expressed in compensation because one of the biggest edges any has when doing well is to pay the most for the best talent - if they can't match that which in the grand scheme is not very much money + the other clues I would be 100% confident there's trouble ahead. Best to you, sounds like you are in demand based on getting an offer recently for more so stick it out!

like

Not being able to match is a total lie, btw. It’s a principle the company is choosing to stand by.

I think you know the answer to your question... Leave.

like

☝️ stick it out as in hang in there you'll get another soon

like

Did you turn down the $75k offer knowing all of that about your current agency or did the people get laid off/quit after you turned down the offer?

like

Not matching that salary is a statement about how much they value you. You should’ve left

Look for another gig, obvs

like

You should have got that more money, honey.

like

This probably sucks to hear, but you should have told your current company that you had an offer and then given then a couple days to see if they could match. You don't really have any bargaining power anymore. That said, if you're now at 68, you should be able to negotiate up to the mid-80s if you look for a new job.

Thanks for all the replies. I knew we weren’t doing too well, but I work on the newest and most promising account and have been on it since onboarding in the spring. The clients repeatedly tell the leadership that they love me. I love the account and clients back (let’s be real that’s rare!). With everyone’s departure I feel like I can play a big role. I stayed because I figure this is the best time in my career to take a risk (no kids, no mortgage, no problem lol). EVP 1, I think that’s exactly what I wanted to hear. A title change would be great. And then yes, an even better offer in the coming months. Thank you everyone!!!

More context: company isn’t too hot and supposedly under the scrutiny of HQ. We’re a small office and lost 80% of the accounts this year leaving us with very little. It’ll be me solely me working on the last big piece of business for the time being possibly with a little oversight from the one remaining GAD (if he hasn’t already found another job) or the current president

Difference between 68k vs 75k is nothing. Look to make a move and when you can negotiate a larger increase

At what point does the value of a degree fall off? I'm in my early 30s, and have five years of experience, and work on a very theoretically interesting project. I believe I'm on track to promotion in the next year. So, I could put in a year of full time school to check the box off, but I'd be sacrificing hobbies and social life (not to mention cost). Is this FOMO or is there real opportunity here?

I'm really hoping to be in the 94k+ range especially since I've been a key player in my groups biggest client for the last year. I'm considering quiting to pass my exams in the next few months if my raise is not where I want it to be...

A friend was told their firm will cut ties EOY if certain things don’t improve. Friend had planned to quit in the next year anyway (to start their own business), so there is no real incentive to bend over backwards. Friend’s goal is to keep the income for a little longer, but to minimize conflict / headaches. What’s the best move here? Wait until EOY and take the severance? Give 6 / 9 / 12 months’ notice now? Is there such a thing as too much notice? Could too much notice backfire?

EY I interviewed at your firm a year ago, and was rejected without much specific feedback. It felt like the Partner was actually trying to elicit information about my previous firm. I really like EY

Applied to a couple product manager positions with companies I was very excited about. Received rejection emails from 2 within a couple days of applying. Any advice? Would you re-apply via a different channel? Try to connect with people who work there on LinkedIn? Just feels like the door got slammed in my face without anyone peeking through the peephole.

Where do you ladies buy everyday clothing? Early to mid 20s. Where do you get cute but quality clothes made with natural materials? Every time I go clothes shopping I look at the material tag and get so frustrated because mostly are synthetic then natural materials are like wayy to expensive like 500 for a winter sweater, 300 for a cotton dress.. I refused to shop at fast fashion brands like Zara and HM. Sandro and Maje are okay but still mostly synthetic materials. any other brands? Helpppp.
