Recently got an offer to go from audit to financial analyst at a subsidiary of a public company which is what I have been wanting to switch to. The base is 5k lower than what I make now and the benefits of maternity leave is unclear. I brought up the possibility of working remotely internationally due to family but the company does not allow that. I am looking for advice on whether I should accept this offer. This is before any salary or start date negotiation.

You shouldn't take an offer that's lower than your current base. Job market is hot af- do not sell yourself short!!! Should be able to get at least a 20% increase at minimum...

like

You need to apply with referrals (which you can get from fishbowl or linkedin). Cold applying is not going to cut it. That being said, you still shouldn't leave for a pay cut.

like

I feel like I already made things complicated before any other negotiation. I have told my SM I am considering an offer and won't be joining this busy season.

like

Even when changing industry, do not take a cut at lower levels. Try for FDD, you’ll open up tons of finance doors and your audit yoe won’t be wasted

like

This! But don't just cold apply. Get referrals. There are a lot of eager people on fishbowl. Even if you want to stay at your current firm, you'll get paid more if you get an outside offer that they have to match.

1. Negotiate salary. Read the book "Never split the difference" if you can. If offer is below your current base of $80k for example, say "I'm sorry, that won't work for me. Can we consider $100-$110k base?" they may not meet $110k but will prob bump up the pay.
2. Why are you leaving your firm? Consider what other roles you'd like to try. Maybe you even like the work but hate your firm. I think more firms are considering flex or part time hires, though you have to do homework and check the team you're being hired to work with actually respects that.
3. Don't ask about mat leave right now. Get the offer in writing with salary. Then say you're deciding between a few options and need benefits information as well, including pto, holidays and maternity leave.

Thanks! I am able to find some summary of the book online so I will give it shot.

Agree with EY1, in this job market you should not have to take a pay cut to change jobs

I was pretty set until I tried to negotiate the start date and salary. Now I am having second thoughts and immediately back to my job application mode 😥

Junior associate at a V10 doing Corporate work. I just received a secondment opportunity with a firm client. It would mainly be helping out on their year-end disclosure and annual meeting process for the next 3-4 months.

I'm pretty satisfied with my big law experience. Obviously the hours can be rough, but I've been working with good ppl and getting good exp. My reviews have been solid and I've had no real issues during my 1+ year at my current firm.

Would you accept this secondment?
