Recently I got invited to an interview with a decent growing company. I work in Executive Search and I am thinking of switching to in-house recruiting. During the conversation the recruiter made some weird assumptions about my current job. The interview took longer than expected and I feel like I have not delivered well. Was I wrong to expect in-house recruiter to understand the differences and similarities between in-house-recruiting, professional search and retained executive search?

You are not wrong necessarily, but there are plenty of cases when people who haven’t experienced both, don’t know all the particulars of each.

Just yesterday I was chatting with a close friend who’s been in recruiting for almost 2 decades and knows the difference between agency recruiting and in-house recruiting. She’s now in HR at a global company and she was saying how they hired a few folks for their recruiting function with experience with agency recruiting, but not in-house recruiting, and how it has caused a lot of confusion in the beginning.

Did you have an opportunity to address the assumptions? Can you still address them? “Educating” someone who doesn’t seem to have full understanding always feels arrogant, but there are ways to do it without making the other person feel bad... otherwise you might continue to feel that you’re not delivering well 🙁

I've been using Python, SQL, and Tableau for my job at Deloitte, which I enjoy and do a great job. I'm also AWS certified. However, I'm more of a generalist at Deloitte, as I joined out of college. I have over 2 years of experience working on ML and ETL projects. I've been applying for Data Analyst / Intelligent positions but it's been difficult to gain traction. Any advice from those who have made a similar transition to further align their interests and skills?

I found a company I was really excited about working at. I applied for the job and went through 5 rounds of interviews. At the end they said I was OVER qualified and they want me for a different position higher up in the company. I was super excited they then had me go through 5 more rounds, 3/5 people were the same. The interviews mostly went "didn't you get the job, I highly recommend you? I'll just put you down as a 10". After those were done they told me I was UNDER qualified. Can't win!

Hello, I'm currently in a final round interview for Account Manager at a creative agency. As a written assignment very, I've been asked to answer the below question. Any advice?

1.we just won a large new client for an influencer mailer project. Walk us through any key initial points & questions to ask the client

At what point during the interview process should you raise potential concerns of being overqualified for a role? As I got further into the interview process (corporate), have realized the role I’m interviewing for reports through a SM —> director —> SVP. I’m technically a manager in title now, but I report through partners and my clients are all c suite or svp. Seems like a step down in visibility, but don’t want to be presumptuous when I don’t have the job yet.

Hi All,

Has anyone ever had to do the second step of an interview over slack? It was a legitimate company not a scam. The person I would be working with said the second interview after an assignment was over slack. They asked me in the first interview about my writing skills. They said since it's a remote company most people I'd never speak with directly and everything would be asynchronous through slack. Is this typical?

Anyone have tips for proper slack etiquette or resources to share?

Had my four virtual interviews in the beginning of January and have not heard anything yet. Is this normal? In the interviews they said i would get the feedback in 3-5 days.

I reached out the my recruiter a few weeks ago and they said they would check with the HM to see what the status was and would get back to me in a few days. Still have not heard anything.

I know no news might be good news but I was wondering if this is normal or should I consider it a lost cause and not reach out anymore.

Is it important to offer support staff that speak a foreign language or is it sufficient if the attorney can communicate with the client? We had one bilingual paralegal and another who is not. The bilingual one left us some time ago.

Thus, we are left with one who can’t communicate with about 25% of our clients. And there just isn’t enough revenue to support two paralegals despite my partner pushing us to hire.

Some advice from a regular remote interviewer - If you feel you can justify/maximise your value to a company above the current salary band, apply for the role, impress the heck out of the panel and push for that higher salary. You'll be surprised how open this conversation can be.

Company's have budgets in place for recruitment. Therefore, adjustments can be made to other open/upcoming roles marginally to facilitate recruiting your higher salary request.
