Recently interviewed for an HR Assistant. I was very active in the hiring process keeping open lines of communication. Ultimately I was told although the manager really wanted to hire me she was ultimately out voted. I asked for feedback. Today I followed up: I am just checking in to see if anyone provided you with any actionable feedback following the review of information shared during my interview process. Thank you for your time. Do you have similar experiences, how did you work through

Yes, I’ve received this type of comment and also similar generic feedback. For example, it was a really strong candidate pool. When I pushed for more feedback I was told they hired someone who had 12 years of experience and I have 6. You just have to realize that you won’t get feedback often unfortunately… I wish that weren’t the case but for the most part it has been for me.

I started a new job in May. I took a step down from Paralegal to Legal Asst. At my interview I was told that to them the title was interchangeable & I would be doing Paralegal work, especially considering that I knew how to do the heavy Paralegal work. But it’s been 6 months of tedious admin work & when I point out mistakes on pleadings, question case strategy or discovery methods, & suggest more effective ways to get things done, I get these weird looks or the brush off. What can I do?

I'm in the last stage of the screening process for an Amazon AWS security engineer position. Due to the recent hiring freeze, I was given two options: - go through the last screening (5x1 hour interviews) and, if accepted, wait for a position to open. If not accepted I have to wait 1 to 2 years to apply again, as usual. - OR don't go through the screening and having to go through another screening process. Advices on what to do are welcome. Right now I'm more prone to go through the interview.

I’ve been submitting applications because my company has been doing layoffs and pay cuts. I was informed yesterday that they will be doing additional pay cuts starting next week. First my bonus was cut by 60% and now they have mentioned they are going to cancel it altogether. When interviewing for new positions how should I explain why I’m looking for a new job even though I still (at least currently) have a job, just major pay cuts?

I suck at case interviews. :( Engineering undergrad and currently in a tech consulting role. Feel like I lack general business knowledge. Had an interview today for a Strategy position and feeling discouraged. I am great at setting up a framework but I struggle with progressing the case (anticipating what’s next) and the math. What resources can I use that don’t require spending $200-400 on a course? Or, if it really is a matter of taking a course, which one should I take?

Imposter Syndrome Reality Check and the Power of IDK

“If you're great at what you do, people come to you for answers.

For lawyers especially, we're paid to have answers for our clients.

So saying "I don't know" can feel weak. It triggers our imposter syndrome.

But sometimes, it's the most powerful thing you can do.

Because you can then lay out a plan to find the answer. You can tap the right people.

And chances are that you'll arrive at an even better result.”

Thoughts?

First time poster here!

After spending 4 years as a mid-level ops manager, I tried to break into HR through talent acquisition. Now after 6 years in TA, I've had a hard time getting out of it. My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!" Or "Maybe in 6 months!"

I'm testing SPHR in June. Any advice for securing the type of role I'm aiming for?

Any suggestions on how to continue helping a new employee in our dept when they do not take notes? I am always willing to help, but it is becoming frustrating to constantly go over the same thing. I have expressed that because our dept does so many things that it is good to take notes over the things we are going over. When our MGR was out of town I spent a large amount of time being patient and helping her all throughout the day. It is now taking time from the task that I need to work on.
