Recently I’ve been in the enviable position of receiving several job offers from other firms and attorneys. I am currently employed and very happy at my current firm. What is the best way to politely decline these offers, both those made via phone and email, without burning any bridges?

This happened to me actually. I had attorneys call me or pull me aside if I saw them in public to offer me a job and invite me to discuss salary and the work environment there. The attorney that asked me in person, I rejected his offer in person and told him I am flattered he wants to hire me but I am happy at my current firm and if I know of any qualified candidates, I will send them his way. Same deal with the phone calls. I talked to those folks by phone and told them I was happy at my firm and I appreciate the offer but I will have to decline.

Thank you!

I don’t mean to seem rude but genuinely curious as to how you’re in this position?

Makes sense. How many are we talking about? I haven’t been in that position before but my suggestion would be to indicate you’re happy in current role but receptive to a convo/learning more. It can’t hurt (right?) and wouldn’t burn a bridge if you end up wanting to move elsewhere down the road. Good luck 😊

Hello Fishes,
My brother is a b.com graduate(2020 passed out) and looking for a job.
The problem here is because Finance jobs requires exceptional skills and academics due to which he is not able to get shortlisted for most job interview screening, he is receiving interview calls from great companies but not able to convert them.
If anybody can help even with an Internship position at their firm that would be a great starter to his career.

Am I crazy to take a pay cut to “chase my dream”? Manager looking to leave Bain - I want to do corporate sustainability - I got an offer for a traditional corp strategy job at $195k base, $23k bonus (no longer-term incentives aka no equity / profit sharing), so similar to current comp except for NAP, but am hoping something sustainability-related comes through. Right now in talks for a sustainability director role that would be closer to $160k base / $20k bonus. (More in comments)

Hello, I have received offer letter from EY LLP for Manager position.
There is a bonus component over and above the CTC mentioned in offer letter.

When asked, HR conveyed the below, verbally.
'Bonus is between 10-20% depending on performance. Usually 15% on an average.'

1) This bonus range (10-20%) is not mentioned in the offer letter. Is this usually the case?

2) Are people in EY receiving the bonus right from the first year on the job or is there some extra t&c I was not made aware?

What if I need to spend more time in consulting so I can learn how to control my Adhd?

Question for senior female bosses. I have an opportunity to network with a senior woman across the pond - what, from your perspective, makes for a good mentor/mentee relationship? My only female mentor is my direct boss and my other mentors are senior men that I’ve known for years and have a relaxed / friendly relationship with.

I really want to get the most out of this but haven’t built a formal relationship with a senior woman before (particularly with a culture difference)

Fellow millennial lawyers: tell me, in general terms, 1 or 2 clients you acquired and how you acquired them. I feel like the suggested strategies for developing business are always the same: network, build your brand (hate this phrase), market yourself on LinkedIn, etc. Does any of this work? Seems to me to that most business development comes from long-standing contacts (e.g. your childhood best friend is now CEO and needs legal services), so I’m curious how other attorneys developed business.

I was fired last month after a short time at the company. I knew things weren't going well- it was a terrible culture fit & I was also planning my exit strategy. They wouldn't give me specific reasons other than to vaguely say it was performance related. I agree I made a few dumb mistakes (none of any dire consequence) but what kills me is that I tried really hard. I don't want to change careers but I have a deep seeded fear that no matter how hard I try, I will never be a "good attorney".

Had a talk with the partners Thursday, they said I’m not producing enough work at the end of each day. First year associate, new area of law, wfh so they are more “what are you doing every second”. While I appreciate their honesty, I feel like they consider me severely indebted to them that they hired me mid pandemic and “allow” me to work from home.

I quit. I was respectful. Thankfully, every person I have told has been so nice, and I wasn't immediately bounced out by my leadership (which has happened), but I have been surprised by my own bittersweet tears. If they actually cared, why didn't they say so sooner? I gave so much, and I was consumed by this organization. I invested in them, but my investment and dedication were not reciprocated, which is why I ever even entertained leaving. I don't know why it hurts, but it really, really does.
