Would you explain those billing practices for those of us who don’t do insurance defense?

Don’t worry. I wouldn’t put it in writing either.

The question is will your clients pay for it?

That sounds like actual work. If you really worked on it, bill it. You just can't do what I understand insurance defense practice lawyers do and bill minimum amounts for routine task that take less time than was billed.

Following. Recently left insurance defense as well . . .

I think the main thing I’m worried about is the following: Say I worked 8 hours on 1 matter. I know I spent some time researching, some time reviewing documents, and some time drafting. But let’s say I went down a research rabbit hole during that time also. But my work product looks great/lengthy and the docs I reviewed were pretty big, too. Is it ok for me to still bill only 8 hours, but mess with the entries/allocations to make it look like I didn’t conduct an arguably unreasonable amount of research time?

Anyone use this strategy frequently? Recently I have been purchasing bullish spreads relatively deep into the money with 2-3 weeks until expiration. Profit comes from the IV crush on the short call. For it to be worthwhile I need high IV stocks that I’m not anticipating to take a deep dip over the next few weeks. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on how to fine tune this strategy or ideas on stocks that would be good candidates

I did a research project and memo for a partner to send to one of her clients.
