Recently moved to industry (corporate strategy). I am good at strategy type work but long term I think I’d like to do something that is a little bit less ambiguous and a bit more grounded in day to day running the business and tangible decisions. I particularly like doing analysis (financial, etc) and tying that to tangible recommendations. What’s a good place to consider going next (in a large company)… FP&A? Into more of a GM role?

Very common.

Maybe obvious, but many strategy roles in industry are basically in-house consultants.

Owning a P/L, running operations, being a decision maker, etc. typically aren’t consultants’ sweet spots. And therefore it can be challenging to enter these types of roles directly from consulting at senior levels.

Impress your senior leaders and see if you can lateral into a role that’s more appealing to you at your same company. Trying to go to another company in an operating role at the same level may be very tough without operational experience.

Funny - I was just chatting about somebody about a similar topic.

Taking role A, which you are well suited, at company 1 to get to role B, which you are much less suited, at company 2 is incredibly difficult at senior levels.

Instead, take a role in which you are suited at a company you want to be at for the long haul to open doors for lateraling into other roles once you prove yourself.

Go into M&A. Close enough to strategy, and you can apply financial analysis

All -
I am interviewing for a Strategy leadership role at a SaaS company. A bit rusty on interviews so crowdsourcing from senior folks here, what are best practices or good examples of certain behavioral questions.

1. What is your weakness? I can talk at length about strengths but unclear what weakness to state so as to not mess up my chances.

2. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? This question is tough because there aren't very many levels above me so cannot say in an EVP role.

Tata Consultancy Hi fishies, I recently interviewed for a Big data dev role for Autodesk but it's via a third party called Applicantz. Initially the contract is for 1 year, which can be extended. There is also scope of Autodesk hiring permanently after 6 months or 1 year. Can anyone provide some reviews about Autodesk and third party Applicantz. Usually I would not have considered anything via a third party, but the company(Autodesk) seems great and work discussed seems good as well.

Hi all, I got laid off from my current company (product based) a month ago. Since then I've been looking for new opportunities. I got an offer from a good product based company with a good package and also my current company offering me rehire with promotion and a good package. I have a good rapport with my current manager, and he played a major role in offering this rehire opportunity. I'm confused about making the right decision here. Kindly share your views. Both offers are pretty much same.

Biggest issue is a 9 month period before starting new role at competing firm. I'm being recruited by a few firms.
