Recently, our client has decided to retract their job offer to a newly hired candidate who is currently rendering his notice period and is already on his last day with his current employer. This is because they have changes internally that have affected the new hiring. I really feel frustrated, guilty, and awful for the candidate. We are already down to the final steps of the onboarding process and should have been his first day next week. (Cont.)

I do not have the right words for how awful I am feeling and I cannot blame him to mark us as a red flag but at the same time, I want him to know that we understand how frustrating it was for him.

I have this feeling to help him understand that me or we, as HR, we are not their enemies but rather their teammates in the workplace. But I guess, this is not the proper time for me to do that.

I hope the higher management or hiring managers would be able to understand that we people in HR or Recruitment sympathize with the candidates as well, the same way we sympathize with them; whenever the market demands are high and expensive, the candidates are difficult to handle, etc., and the stakes are getting more challenging. Same goes whenever we reject a proper candidate, a skilled candidate but rejected because of unreasonable preferences, unfair treatment, etc.

Being human will not make you less professional. 💔❤

Is a 15k paycut worth it?

Just got promoted unexpectedly, big jump in salary.

I was interviewing with a new position when the promo came.

Have one last interview but I'm likely to get the job.

New position is 10k more than old salary but 15k less than new one.

Gets me out of public accounting (better WLB) and into a space I'm interested in.

Also gets me out of tax (major goal) into a more general finance role.

I'm thinking try it for a year or two, see how it goes, and jump if needed.

Weighing up a top buy-side offer, but worried about perception on my overall tenure within roles.

May only be in this new ASC role for ~1y (personal circumstances). This would make 3 roles in ~3.5 years ( T2 consulting -> MBB -> buyside) out of undergrad. Long-term want to be entrepreneurial / do early-stage investing (Partner-track at a fund), have clear rationale for previous and future moves.

Is this an issue or am I overthinking? Thoughts?

Any suggestions on how to address the upper management teams' racial biases? Like, I don’t think anyone on the team is openly racist, or at least they aren’t aware of it but I have been with this company for about two months now and I can tell the difference in the way POC are treated vs. the white employees. For context, the leadership team is made up of 12 men (all white), and two white females. So, yeah, not sure how to address this.

I work in manufacturing and have seen an uptick in employees abusing substances. We have a zero tolerance policy & are abiding by it. We have trained all out supervisor on reasonable suspicion & have provided them with tools to help identify. With that I’m trying to find ways to get to our employees who may be struggling BEFORE they decide to come to work impaired. Any ideas on what to do? We do have an EAP & are encouraging employees to utilize the services but it may be falling on deaf ears.
