recently promoted and had to “write off” my PTO Balance. If I had separated from the firm on normal circumstances they would have paid me that balance in cash. Can I write this off on taxes somehow?

Looking to leave my current role, in industry (engineering/manufacturing) and to get back into big 4 (same firm as well), however I have a 3 month holiday planned from December next year.

Are big 4 pretty lenient on allowing holidays of that length? Especially for boomerangs? Or is it better to come back after the holiday and try then? Thinking that contracting temporarily might be the way to go in the interim.

I’ve seen a couple posts lately with comments saying that people should not use a Roth 401k. Does the logic below capture the spirit of that concept?
1. Use trad. 401k to reduce taxable income now. Convert to trad. IRA once retired, then convert gradually to Roth IRA (ladder, SEPP, etc.) at lowest marginal tax rate
2. Use Roth IRA (and/or backdoor Roth) to take advantage of tax free growth and ability to withdraw principal early without penalty

What is the benefit of having onsite opportunity to Germany? I have below reservations:
+ Travel/Exposure
- I do not plan to settle in Germany
- Given the high taxes, savings would not be much significant. I can get similar/more savings in India.

How does this onsite experience helps once I am back to India? Consider I am going to work for 1-2 years?

I am trying to apply job for many companies since last month, and i haven't got any response from any of them.

Are there any Organizations still out there who are hiring/open for referral and are in position to handle recession.

Please comment your thoughts. It might make someone's day.

Always been a fan of FIRE and reading about it has definitely helped my finances but I can’t help but wonder if the movement is more about lifestyle change than early retirement.

After you achieve FI,you basically have to maintain the lifestyle that got you there.

What if you want to go on a lavish vacation or buy that flatscreen TV? Are you supposed to do away with material goods entirely? I suppose you could keep working for discretionary $ and live off interest but then you’re not retired.

Feeling really lonely this holiday season and I think it's time for a change. I love my job but I'm realizing I devote too much time to it. I would really like to expand my social circle and potentially meet someone, but I don't really know where to start. Ideally my partner would also work in healthcare, but it isn't a dealbreaker for me. Ladies what should I do?? I'm a 32 year old woman with no kids.

What are ways to get more vacation time?

I’m feeling a little suffocated with the standard two weeks with all my family events this year.

9months in at new firm that I moved for. Average rent within a 30 minute drive of the office is up over 60% (my current building has doubled). I got a 25% raise but am still likely not going to be able to live reasonably close. I’m the only employee that doesn’t own a home and am unsure how to raise the issue that i need to make more so i can live reasonably close to the office.

If buy the partners you work with regularly a holiday gift, how much do you spend? Usually I get baked goods or food items which you can’t tell the actual amount spent on. This year, though, I’d like to support local restaurants by encouraging people to order takeout—hence, giving gift cards.

How much is appropriate for a restaurant gift card from an associate to a partner?

What the hell do you get male coworkers for office holiday gifts? They're fine guys and we have a great team but I wouldn't say I know them well enough to pick out individual relevant gifts for each of them. I was thinking like 5ths of whiskey & some chocolate? Or homemade cookies or something? Please give me some good ideas

I have 2 offers to consider. What makes more sense?
Full time role with 3 weeks vacation and benefits or contract opportunity with 20k more in potential salary.

Little background, I have been a loyal employee and have only worked at 1 firm for about 6 years now. Looking for more growth and obviously money.

Need some suggestions on what to consider and any pitfalls that I should be aware of.

Thanks
