Gonna toss in my opinion on ACN strategy. Been here 8 years. I've had a ton of great opportunities, and I like where our strategy practice is going. There are small pockets of teams doing the long hours grind, but I've been able to have a pretty successful and rapid ascent in the company while maintaining a 45-50 hour work week. I like that we have a well integrated analytics practice/model and that our strategy work has the pragmatism to go beyond decking and actually partner with our digital/tech counterparts to pilot while we build our business cases. I've been surrounded by people that push me to be better and folks that are smarter than me to help me learn. Culture is focused on continuous personal growth and development. I'm a fan.

Most of my friends who left McK said they quit for the same reason they joined: you’re there to learn from the best, which means foot always on the gas.

Once you’ve proven yourself one area, you are next evaluated on an entirely different competency- beginning at the bottom.

Those who stick around either want to continue growing in every capacity possible, or make it to a senior level where they’ve proven themselves and then are evaluated by different metrics.

So (generally speaking), those who leave either have achieved what they wanted to develop, want a second to catch their breath, or move somewhere else and usually hire McK when they need strategy work.

It’s not for everyone, but it’s not a firm (from my understanding) that catches its people by surprise.

Nobody is leaving McK to come to one of our firms. Only would imagine moving from McK to BCG, else to industry. I like KPMG and plan to stay here, but Big4 independence and general audit baggage is a drag. Jump to a nicely funded startup instead.

I have been at D (3 years) and now at EY (3 years) I would say D has the best methodology, and very high standards, very good Prestige, with this comes lot of pressure and long hours and days. It was good for career, but imo too much pressure.

I love EY! I like genuinely the people here. Might not have the best methodology but we deliver, but the people is nice. I feel i actually work with humans and i like that. At Deloitte i felt most people were such overachievers that sometimes i wondered if they had a heart? A soul? A life? A family? Depends what you like. A type A culture or a more laidback culture.

Seriously, now. I’ve been given some pretty cool access to very senior people. I’ve done many diligences and learned about sectors of the economy that I barely knew existed. A very senior partner trusted me (a consultant at the time) to have the floor for like 90 minutes during our steering committee with senior client. I’ve helped clients facing really tough times get through it while feeling heard. The hours suck sometimes, the demands can be irrational at times, but the exposure is incredible. I’ve personally grown a lot.

Well, first off, why do you want to leave McK (when majority is usually looking to go the other way around)

Very little travel (unless if you're seeking a travel project or are in commercial), generally good work-life balance (unless if you're gunning for promotion), relative job stability (federal consulting has long, multi-year contracts), culture is very collaborative (one P&L), great flexibility (can be 100% remote, but most people come into the office a few times a week. Mondays, Fridays, bad weather, people usually stay home) - cont.

Have to echo the comments about EY. I genuinely respect the leaders in my practice, and for a change, actually believe they’ll do right by their people. Partners and senior managers make themselves quite accessible, and there’s a keen focus on development for juniors. Our tools and systems can occasionally be lacking and we’re experiencing some growing pains, but it’s a great culture.

I anticipate getting a low interest 24 month loan (hoping 0%) next year of about 15k.

I am currently living "paycheck to paycheck" (after maxing retirement accounts). But I have cash savings from inheritance in a HYSA: 15k emergency fund + 20k excess cash.

I can afford to pay the loan in full immediately, but assuming low rate, I don't plan to. What's the best strategy here? I can't just invest my 20k excess cash because I live paycheck to paycheck and can't afford the minimum payments (cont)

Hi fellow fishes,
I worked in consulting for 6 years with Accenture, Capgemini in India.
I moved to US and got my H4 EAD in December 2021.
While all the major clients I worked for in these 6 years were from NA region, but head-hunters told me to start from associate level as my previous work experience outside US doesn't matter.
I have been job hunting for 2 months now, are there any relevant pointers you guys would want to share!!
