Recently started a new position. Great company, team and training has been smooth and over all transition. Unfortunately the commute is already overwhelming and won’t work long term. I’m tying to decide on whether I should resign to focus on job search or stay and job search.

& what do I tell potential employers about my current work situation. Do I say I’m unemployed or be truthful.

I would stay while looking for a new opportunities. At the moment the job hunt is insane with the back to back layoffs.

Once you obtain an offer, they have an opportunity to retain an counter offer with hopefully remote as an option. Happy hunting!

Upfront honesty is HUGE in our world especially in todays market. I’d tell them the truth

like

Any way you can request WFH or at least a hybrid arrangement? Sounds like you're happy where you are now, and if they can accommodate you, that would probably be ideal. If not, then I'd stick it out while searching. With the market becoming more volatile, it's hard to tell how long it might take to land another offer. You don't want to be panicking a year from now if you quit and haven't found anything yet.

Stay while you look for a job. Unless the commute is so expensive that this doesn't make sense, then quit. I would just tell future employers the truth, you were grateful for the opportunity but the commute was untenable for you, so you have to move on. There isn't anything wrong with that.

Always stay and job search. The market is insane and while there are a lot of open jobs rn there are also a lot of people looking to change jobs so it may take months before you find something. Also sounds like you may want a remote role and remote roles are extremely competitive. And definitely dont lie about being unemployed, recruiters will understand why your current role isnt working out. Be upfront with it.

Help! Pursue a great career VS my passion?

For context: I’ve been a startup founder and ran a small fitness studio (my passion). I had to close them down due to COVID. Then I got a job at a local Accelerator to pay my bills.

Workload & company culture wasn’t a fit, so I quit. I have a dilemma whether to join a global accelerator (huge pay and learning potential) or go back to my fitness biz. I’ve yet to figure out my longterm goals, but I really enjoy doing both! Pls share your thoughts 🙏🏼

I am a high performing individual contributor in a fast-growing company that succeeds or fails based, in no small part, on my results. I get perfect reviews and work well with my team. There appears to be no growth path. I’ve defined my path forward to my team and asked for the promotion. I appear to be at my ceiling. Other companies are calling, but so far, I have turned everyone away. This is not a credential issue. I’m grad degreed and have multiple certifications.
Advice?

I’m curious to know... How some agencies claim to be an “equal opportunity employer”, when they don’t even post their openings and hire people they already know? I’d love to work for some specific agencies in New York, I check their jobs page, I respectfully reach out to the hiring team to express my interest and nothing happens... It’s really frustrating.

I have been with my organization for almost 21 years. I let my CEO know that I plan to move and take a new HR role in Seattle by 6/30. She is worried that my departure will be hard for our staff and community so she offered me a sabbatical to help with my transition to a new city. Her thought is that my sabbatical would ease my departure over time. She would like to have me consult for at least 6 months after I leave. Has anyone ever experienced something like this? How did it work?
