Fake it till you make it
Been there, still there. It takes time to hone your skills. It helps if you work with skilled attorneys and learn from them. The more work you do the more comfortable you get with it. Don’t worry, it’ll come eventually. And if it doesn’t there are always other opportunities out there!
If you’re a young lawyer and new to private practice and don’t have imposter syndrome and aren’t miserable and don’t lack confidence…. Then I’d be worried. What you are describing is a normal part of the growth process. Like I told a younger associate recently - if you aren’t frustrated, feeling awkward and off balance and outside your comfort zone, then you aren’t really learning.
Just grind it out and learn from mistakes and don’t be afraid. Rome wasn’t built in a day. It’s just going to take time.
It is 100% normal. Just do your best. It’s gotten you this far. The confidence will come as you complete more assignments.
