If you don’t have pre-MBA experience take it. Post-MBA breaking into PE is extremely tough.

like

Eh disagree with most folks on here. Since you have pre MBA PE experience I don’t think it’ll be too tough for you to recruit after 2 years at Bain. You’re right leaving right after starting isn’t great and you’re probably burning a bridge (which is also fine). I would make the decision based on the trajectory of this fund - who are the founders? Are they reputable and successful? Is this a career track role you’re excited about? How’s the culture? Etc

like

Is this VC or PE?

like

Did you have pre MBA PE experience?? How did you land a deal team role from MBB post MBA?

like

To clarify, I had LMM PE experience pre-MBA. New opportunity has a broad mandate (growth equity and buyout). Haven’t really been at MBB long enough to claim it on a future resume

like

If you’re passionate about the role you’re getting, do it and don’t look back, word of caution though - moving up from LMM/MM to UMM/MF will be an uphill battle. Bain MAY give you exposure to bigger shops and “better” exit opportunities, but you’ll be competing against other Bainies and MB consultants for the said roles.

like

I would stay at Bain; the experience is much more valuable than Big 4; the quality of commercial work exposure is great and we usually hire Bain (PE firm) to do commercial work.

You’ve already got MBB on your resume, take the job.

Would this change if OP didn't have MBB on the resume?

like

I would be cautious. $200mm AUM is not much. What’s the move if this fund doesn’t work out?

$200mm in Fund I for a buyout shop is for real. Fundraising with no brand, no back office, and no exit attribution is like picking a fight with Floyd Mayweather every single day, except less fun.

likefunny

You can come back to MBB easily lol

But if you can pull it off big power move

How long have u been here? With a sponsor u could prob come back

Idk how the market is these days but it feels like first time fund opps are fairly common and 200m is not that big. However, a bird in the hand...
