Recommendation for a sunrise alarm clock? Looking at the hatch but I hate how you have to pay for the subscription content monthly - anyone use it without the subscription content? Is it really that big of a deal?

I have a sunrise alarm clock, it’s not a hatch. Honestly, bought it many years ago, I don’t even know what brand it is, but I ordered it off Amazon, of course haha. I like it, it’s simple. It has a a sunrise setting, which slowly gets brighter, and has several sounds to choose from if you want a sound or radio. It was like $30, and I see a bunch in amazon.

I have hatch with schedules and white noise and no monthy subscription. It works fine.

That said, I got it for my toddler because I wanted to be able to control it from my phone. There are plenty of cheaper options on Amazon.

I’ve had my hatch for 3 years… I didn’t even know there was a subscription for it 🤣

I have the Phillips model everybody talks about online. Pricier, but no app needed, good features that are easy to set up, and legitimately enjoy it. Do not regret.

I also have this- it gets the job done. I get up more alert and don’t sleep with my phone in my room anymore.

I have the Philips SmartSleep Sunrise alarm clock which I purchased ~7 years ago for well over $100 at the time, and I absolutely love it and can’t live without it. Especially when waking really early for work in those winter months (but I wake when it’s still dark out most of the year). I’ve found them at thrift stores many times over the years for around $7 and have grabbed one now and then to give them to friends, and even bought one to take to my in-laws to have while we’re visiting them. I’d highly recommend looking around at your local Goodwill, etc. because I still see them there all the time. That being said I’d still pay full price again if I had to because YES!

Thanks! This is helpful

Use the Apple Watch too but it’s hard to use it for both workouts/daily life and sleep while maintaining battery

I have had a Hatch for years and until this moment did not know that a subscription exists. What are you possibly subscribing to??

like

Same! Had no idea there was subscription content. I like mine without it.

I have this one. As mentioned in the reviews, the alarm sounds aren’t as good and sound a bit cheap. But regardless, it doesn’t bother me and I’ve been happy with it. https://www.amazon.com/Sunrise-Sleepers-Simulation-Nightlight-Daylight/dp/B081CHLF46

Just get some WiFi lights and set a scene.

And I set the scenes with Alexa (I also have some echos)

I have the Hatch Restore and never used the subscription beyond the initial trial. It works fine for me. It sucks that some of the features are behind the paywall but I don't use the "sunset" bedtime features, only the sunrise. You have a more limited sunrise color selection and more limited sounds to wake up to, but if you like the basic sounds well enough, then you don't need the subscription. Because it's a more gentle wake up method, I still set a second alarm just in case, but 95% of the time, I get up within 5 minutes of the Hatch sound alarm going off and sometimes even get up with just the light, before the sound comes on. It's great, much better for me as a non-morning person who used to need 3 snoozes and a back up alarm.
