Recommendations on making friends as a couple? My SO and I (late 20s, married) live in a neighborhood mostly with people with kids and it’s been hard to make friends. How have people built community; I’m very curious to know what’s worked for you.

Sports has always been my take. Joining some form of league is a great way to make friends. I’ve played ice hockey the majority of my life and joining one of the leagues in a new city when I moved has given me so many lifelong friends.

I’m in my 30s with kids now but agree - look at VOLO for kickball, volleyball, etc. leagues! They were great when I was in my 20s in denver trying to make friends.

Echoing what most people have said but really any hobby or activity is definitely the easiest way to meet people. Personally I've had success with soccer/volleyball/rock climbing and using the meetup app but it varies in popularity by city. Really just force yourself to go out to events and it'll slowly work out!

like

Take the initiative and invite people to do things quickly and try do the core planning on the spot e.g., get to a time, place, activity quickly.

It won’t always work but it’s a really fast filter for those who are looking for new friends vs not. If they don’t take you up within a short time move on.

In the same boat (late 20s, married, in a similar area). Need to really put yourselves out there with coworkers, neighbors, and activities (gym, sports, etc.). Hosting / or organizing always helps.

But on the plus side, have found there is definitely a domino effect, where once you make a few friends you’ll end up meeting their friends and so forth, especially in Denver where it less “cliquey” than other cities.

You should just have kids. Great way to connect with the neighbors.

Having kids for the sole purpose of using them as a tool to have friends is a bad idea 🤔
They are a huge commitment, and they are human beings.

I joined meetup and facebook groups centered around hobbies I enjoy…hiking, skiing, climbing etc. there is also a Facebook group called activities with friends and they do a wide variety of broader interest events from happy hours to axe throwing to summer tubing, etc.

Sports/outdoor stuff imo. Get some people to ski and you’ve made friends for years

Met my friends via meetup, and we have been hanging out for 2 years now

My SO told me he wanted to take a break and I told him that we should rather break up for good but never heard back from him. During the break, I met couple of guys and things happened. Now my SO wants to be back in my life and I told him what I have been up-to. I gave him the classic “But we were on a break” line and he got more upset. I don’t think our relationship is salvageable at this point. It feels so weird few months ago we were so madly in love and now we are in this situation.

I’m an attractive 42 year old happily married mother of 4. I’m not drop dead gorgeous but a 8/10. Dads of my kids friends text me to invite my kids to activities and additional sport practices. I’m pretty naive and assume they’re doing it because they like my kids. I don’t want to send the wrong message by accepting. Are they interacting with me because of my kids or because I’m attractive? If I bring my kids to the functions am I sending a message that I’m interested in something else?

Are there any well-off suburbs around Chicago where there's a significant amount of black or mixed race people? Significant meaning 40-50%+. I've seen a lot of nice black suburbs in southern and eastern cities but less in the midwest. In an interracial relationship and want to get an idea if there are any suburbs where our kids would feel represented or if we'll need to move down south for that.

For those in NJ (or I guess anywhere in the northeast), have folks considered getting/actually gotten solar panels? Has it been worth it? We have a consultation with a solar company soon (sun power) and don't think this is our forever home so think we may move in 10 years or so + I've been seeing a lot of cloud cover (on any given day) + whether to install a battery, all making me think that all of this may be a hassle that's not worth it....would appreciate any tips/insight/experience!!

What is it about Palantir that gets people so excited? I think they are in a good niche but it doesn’t seem like their tech is necessarily a differentiator. I think that there is a lot of value in both their data and their relationships but I don’t know how they have leverage these. I like the company and like the leadership but am a little bit confused about the valuation. I bought PLTR at $10 and am considering buying more but would like to better understand the story.

Anyone else required to put together completely unrealistic timelines?

Upper management's direction is to put together the most aggressive deadlines we can. If we think a project will take 16 months, make the plan for 10 months then there's a chance we may launch in 13 months.

I understand that time to market is important in consumer product goods, but being constantly behind schedule and rushing everything is terrible for the team's morale.

Car Tire gurus - Yokohama Avid Ascend GT vs LX. I live in CO so winter capability is important, but with a Subaru Outback the car already is well equipped.

Question is whether or not the GT is that much better in the snow that it is worth foregoing an extra 20,000 miles potential tread life with the LX.

I’m leaning LX, but welcome all thoughts!
