Themis outlines; Essay Writing for the California Bar Exam (I think that's the name of the book, it's the main one, blue cover), the other associate who posted the smart bar prep outline is very good, you can get the essay frequency with issue and sub issues broken down. Sample answers they have online. Adaptibar I heard is good (but I took the essay portion only for the attorney exam. And my personal favorite, the Reddit app which was GREAT to discuss the exam with. Good luck!!

Also if you like flash cards, critical pass is great. There’s a ton of material out there…so just throwing one more your way! I really liked alternating critical pass with smart bar (all to supplement Barbri). Good luck indeed!

I took it in 2019. I did Kaplan for the first 46 days, then Adaptibar for multiple choice and some book on essays by a female author whose name I cant recall (Mary?), plus flash cards for the last 2 weeks. Treated it as a 9-5 M-F job. I can find the title of the book if you're really interested, it was like the Bible for essays. Passed on my first try

Mary Basick is the author. Literally miles ahead of the feedback I got from Kaplan

Grateful for these two goodest girls. We were on a hike off leash at my family farm. Their e-collars were out of battery (🤦🏼‍♀️). An hour in, a MASSIVE herd of deer ran through the woods where we were walking. Off they went. The cattle dog stopped pretty quickly on command. The deaf hound luckily realized where her friend went, and she came back too. My mom's shitzu... Yeah he ran off quite a ways before he gave up. Both these dogs have super high chase/prey drive. I'm so proud of them.

Any firms charge no-shows / have a provision in their fee agreements about reserving the right to do so? I get that we aren’t healthcare, but I work from home more and more now. So when I drag my ass to the office because a client wanted an in person meeting, and 38 min later, they aren’t here, it’s frustrating

I have practiced law for several years and still struggle with the feast-or-famine nature of my practice. (Sudden rush of client outreach, many emergencies, then … nothing). A famine week might be 3-4 billable hours/day. My practice area does not have a predictable annual cycle, like “year end” or “tax day.” Any tips from other attorneys for how to recognize, predict, and/or even out these periods?

How have other firms dealt with employees testing positive for COVID after reopening? I work at an Am Law 200 that reopened in June and has required all employees across all offices to start coming back in to work every day since then. We got notified that an employee in my office received a positive diagnosis but the office isn’t planning to close and doesn’t think contact tracing is necessary though the person likely still came into work every day last week while waiting for their test result.

Sorry to xpost: would you take a 20k pay cut to move to a HCOL city for a job you think you might like and enjoy? (In-house) I thought I would be staying in my current city for the long term and love it here, but hate my job. New city also has friends and connections, so I wouldn’t be totally alone. Would be going from around 140k to 120k.

I was supposed to go on vacation this week but a case I’m on blew up and my boss basically pretended to forget about my vacation and kept expecting me to be available this weekend/next week. I emailed him this a.m. a nice short email saying “I love this job but I do need vacation. I haven’t taken a week off since I started a year and a half ago. I’d like to reschedule for later in March, can we make it work?” He responded “sure” several hours later. I’m annoyed. Is this annoying or am I crazy?

For Plaintiff's attorneys, how big is your caseload? What kind of cases are the majority of them and are they in suit? CV advice please! I’ve been running deals myself (w one senior partner) since I was a trainee because 3/4 of my team quit back then and the partner to assoc ratio was very high in my team. Was tough but great training. I’m just under a year qualified (including my training I have 2 years of exp). My team is now staffed with 3rd/4th year assocs but I’m still chosen for the biggest deals and I draft the loan docs which the partners wouldn’t ask the other assocs to draft (Cont below)
