I have practiced law for several years and still struggle with the feast-or-famine nature of my practice. (Sudden rush of client outreach, many emergencies, then … nothing). A famine week might be 3-4 billable hours/day. My practice area does not have a predictable annual cycle, like “year end” or “tax day.” Any tips from other attorneys for how to recognize, predict, and/or even out these periods?

How have other firms dealt with employees testing positive for COVID after reopening? I work at an Am Law 200 that reopened in June and has required all employees across all offices to start coming back in to work every day since then. We got notified that an employee in my office received a positive diagnosis but the office isn’t planning to close and doesn’t think contact tracing is necessary though the person likely still came into work every day last week while waiting for their test result.

Sorry to xpost: would you take a 20k pay cut to move to a HCOL city for a job you think you might like and enjoy? (In-house) I thought I would be staying in my current city for the long term and love it here, but hate my job. New city also has friends and connections, so I wouldn’t be totally alone. Would be going from around 140k to 120k.

I was supposed to go on vacation this week but a case I’m on blew up and my boss basically pretended to forget about my vacation and kept expecting me to be available this weekend/next week. I emailed him this a.m. a nice short email saying “I love this job but I do need vacation. I haven’t taken a week off since I started a year and a half ago. I’d like to reschedule for later in March, can we make it work?” He responded “sure” several hours later. I’m annoyed. Is this annoying or am I crazy?

CV advice please! I’ve been running deals myself (w one senior partner) since I was a trainee because 3/4 of my team quit back then and the partner to assoc ratio was very high in my team. Was tough but great training. I’m just under a year qualified (including my training I have 2 years of exp). My team is now staffed with 3rd/4th year assocs but I’m still chosen for the biggest deals and I draft the loan docs which the partners wouldn’t ask the other assocs to draft (Cont below)
