Best benefits for midsized firm?
Call them, let them give their whole pitch, and then ask the name of the firm. They’re not going to just tell you so you can circumvent and apply without them.
No, but if they tell you the name, you can apply without them. This is not hard to figure out.
Ok, I don’t know about this. Although this for me was years ago, but firms, if they engage a recruiter, don’t want to deal with it, and engaged a recruiter for a reason. So I don’t know that getting the name of the firm and applying directly really helps you: the firm wants the recruiter to screen—to screen. So the fact the recruiter won’t tell you what the firm is is odd. I’ve worked with a recruiter twice and after vetted, I always knew what firm it was.
Great response. The vetting is the key. We are paid to find qualified and interested candidates for a role and cannot possibly do that without meeting with and getting to know the applicants.
Sometimes the role is confidential as well and so they wouldn’t want to give out the name of the firm.
So what you sign with them, then they tell you who it is?
They normally share with you the name the name of the company or firm on your phone screen with the recruiter/interview.
As a recruiter I always disclose the name of the company/firm (unless the client requests otherwise) but only after the candidate and I have had a phone call or meeting. I need to know your interest is sincere. We work hard to build trust and engage the clients who utilize our services and protect those relationships.
To your other point, recruiters are not paid by email per se but many recruiting companies track the amount of outreach a recruiter makes.
Hi can i send my CV and you could see if you have a good fit for my experience?
4 out of 5 times, I know the employer the recruiter is sourcing for, especially if the position is in the same market I am interested in. You shouldn't have to hide company name if the posting is public. Many candidates still appreciate the value of recruiters in getting their resume ahead of the stack for consideration, even when they already know the employer.

I know many recruiters that will not bother replying to emails asking the client name because you can apply directly, through another recruiter or essentially gain what they consider valuable information without establishing any relationship with them. For them information is valuable.
If you say why you want to know the firm, you might get a response. “I’m happy where I’m at but am always curious what firms are hiring in my practice area and city. Can you share the name of the hiring firm?”

If you had a target list of firms, I’d reach out to my contacts at each firm to see if they might consider an opportunistic hire in your practice area rather than wait for an opportunity to come across my desk.
I share the name of the firm in my first email to avoid wasting your time. If it’s an unposted job a colleague has, I don’t, and ask that you text for more information. Sure, you could choose to be a D and go around me. But that doesn’t happen that much. Most people find value in using a forthright recruiter.
