RECRUITERS: How is the best way to respond to your question “What is your ideal salary/What is your salary expectation?”

What’s the best response to get the highest in the budgeted range?

The best way to aim high, but not shoot yourself in the foot for coming in TOO high is to ask the recruiter if they have a salary range that they are working within. Followed with something like, "I am interviewing at other places within this XYZ range, but would like to be considered for all ranges, even it if it is lower than that. I care more about the opportunity, than the money."

The reason I say that is because I'll have people tell me they are targeting 150k, but when I let them know the range caps out at 110k, people tend to be embarrassed when they say they are open to that, too, haha.

Fighting Salary Compression

I have 15+ years vesting in current company/ position, 25 years over all. I love my job!
But for the past 3 years I’m told that my yearly annual increases will be decreased due to reaching a salary ceiling. 2% rate increases barely kept pace with rate of living, especially after this years 8-12% inflation increase. Also, new employees are now being hired at a higher rate.

Anyone else experience this issue? How and what is the best course of action to address?

I had a technical interview with IBM last wednesday and on thursday they had set up a managerial round for discussion. It went well and the manager asked me about my expectations. Should I consider the fact that they might have rejected me even after all those discussions ? Shouldn't the HR atleast have a discussion ? IBM Tata Consultancy

I'm currently on short term disability (but not on FMLA). Prior to leave, I started interviewing. I received multiple offers... Haven't accepted one yet, but more than likely will. It's going to be a while until I'm able to get back to work. I'd like to be able to tell my mgr/team now that I'm leaving so they can prepare. I also know they can terminate me while I'm on STD and not protected by FMLA. If I give notice and they decide to terminate me on the spot, do I lose my STD benefits?

Scored an awesome midlevel role at a remote agency that I negotiated to start in the new year.
I wanted a nice winter break before starting but also wanted to give my bosses plenty of time to find a replacement. I’m happy to stay till the holidays so I can finish up my responsibilities. We’re a small agency and I’m one of two ADs.
I know my leaving will be a shock to my team. Any tips for quitting a job when you really like the people? I have a meeting with my CD scheduled for tomorrow.

I got a verbal offer from a WPP agency today. The role's budgeted salary is 5k less than my desired salary.
The recruiter can get me closer but still not at my desired salary. Otherwise - it would have to go through a long approval process with no guarantee that the salary would even be OK'd.
I'm coming from a small agency, so I could be wrong - but I don't want to sell myself short by accepting the first salary they offer. Do I have any room to negotiate? Or is that risky?
