J-1’s aren’t extremely difficult to get because of their limited expiration date and the fact that you can’t extend them. But you’ll need to find an employer with some kind of trainee program who’s willing to sponsor the application. My guess would be to try the big agencies that are more likely to know the process and don’t care as much about spending an additional 5,000$ on an intern.
^ don’t listen this person. It’s definitely possible and great agencies that recognize the need for diversification in their talent will do it. Don’t give up. Also I speak from experience. Not making some generalization like the ☝️ post.
Yeah. Don’t listen to me. What this dude ^ is saying is true and I really hope you get it, but sadly, I’ve personally (and frustratingly) overheard more times than I can count that “the agency doesn’t want to sponsor visas."
Given that it’s almost mid-April and most big agency internship programs kick off in early June, you may have trouble finding a place that will sponsor the J-1 for you, esp. if there are qualified candidates who don’t need a visa to intern...Most internship application deadlines are within the next few days, so you need to get a move on.
@Copyriter 1 it’s not about being on time or not. I was already looking when the processes were opened. I just want to know how much money and effort costs making a J-1 visa for internationals, because as far as I know is not that much.
Agencies don’t want to spend the money to sponsor as is and now with Trumple Foreskin in the White House, unless you’re C-suite level, your odds of getting sponsored are almost nil. Sorry to say
I interned at Saatchi LA and there were three interns on visas. It's definitely possible.
