OP, go to the AA site and search for the flights you want but make sure to check "Book using Miles" when searching - once you pick all the days, times, airports, etc. it'll give you the total number of round-trip miles
Take this number of miles and multiply it by your valuation (somewhere around .013). This will give you the "value" of the ticket
An easy way to then compare is go to Google Flights and find the lowest cost flight that meets your criteria (same airports, around the same time frame, same days, etc.) and this is a good comparison cost
If you can book the flight directly through the airline for cheaper than what your miles are worth, do it.
Also remember that miles lose their value over time - you shouldn't hold 100k miles for 10 years hoping the perfect deal comes along
They are worth about 1.3-1.4 cents per point. So do thr math. Points Guy's monthly valuations are best ones
@Op just search for flights on AA’s site and select redeem miles and you will see your options
I only spend points on saver fares (not sure what those are called with AA). Makes the most sense to me
MilesAAver? How can I find the exact number of points it'll cost me to book a certain flight?
@S&1, that was perfect advice. Thank you so much.
FYI. Typically use mine for INTL trips. Taxes are higher but with connections redemptions are valued at a higher rate.
