For me, yes. The standing shower is priority number one for me in a kitchen reno.
Stand in the sink :)
OK, not bad at all! Here’s what I’d do, and it will dramatically change that setup. 1). Remove the glass sliding doors and trash them. They significantly date a bathroom. 2). Get the tub and tile surround reglazed bright white. There are companies/individuals that do that. It will cost $1000-$1500. They can repair any screw holes left from the glass enclosure. 3). Replace shower head with a high quality peice - Moen or Kholer are good choices. 4). Install a curved shower rod and standard shower curtain. Trust me, this will dramatically transform your bathroom and will be the cheapest route. Also, what you have doesn’t warrant changing to a standing shower - I would keep the setups in both locations.
Always make sure you have at least one bathtub in the house for resale value to families with children
Only in Florida.
Alternative thought to the resale argument: do whatever you want, it's your house; it should make you happy.
I did it!!
Flooring choice looks good and exponentially better than the old tile!
Nothing like frying some eggs while talking a shower!
Every post of mine is a mistake. I’ll stop now. Good luck with the bathrum renovation.
Yes, as long as there's a tub in another bathroom
Hell no! I had a ton of contractors who acted like it's the only real option, but we stuck to our guns and kept the tub. I like to soak once a week or so, definitely nice on stressful days!
Ultimately, just do whatever you like!
I actually want to replace the glass sliding doors with black ones and change the fixtures to matte black (basic, I know) and I’m doing so they’ll have to take the tile out 🙈
I was planning to just leave the doors in since I like not having curtains, but I agree it’s an older look.
The Dreamline products seem to be very good. I’ve now used three of their pans.
I have two!
Redoing mine now, and I can confirm that contractors will try to talk you out of having a tub. They’re not the boss of you.
It’s hard to say without knowing the details of your place, but in my case, no. We’re in a prewar building with tile almost 90 years old, and the walls are plaster and lathe. Once you break through the tiles, the walls basically crumble to dust. There is no sheet rock. We have to go to the studs and put up sheet rock before we can tile. So it really depends.
But also, and probably most importantly, you’ve gotta triple bid contractors, not only for cost comparison, but for detail orientation, to judge their project management/communication abilities, and to get them to tell you about what your situation is, what it means, and how that translates into dollars.
Just curious- how much bathroom remodeling cost. I've both standing shower and bathtub in master bed. I want to change flooring and standing shower. I would think that will get very costly?
Varies by sq ft, where you are, and whether you have to move plumbing. In 2014 ish, I did a very small bathroom (like, the tub/shower combo is 6" shorter than standard, one of those old house cram all three pieces as close as you can things). LCOL city. Average quality contractors. Sprung for a nice solid wood (but "ready to assemble" and single sink) vanity and quartz counter. The rest was builder grade or barely a step up. Cost $12-15k for everything (tile floor and surround, all fixtures, no plumbing moved).
In a master bathroom big enough for a separate tub and shower, I would expect $20k+. The fancy renos if not DIY easily start around $35k+.
Bathrooms and kitchens sell houses to a point but you'll never get 100% roi on them so either get what you want because that's what you want, or keep what's typical for the neighborhood in mind.
OP, take some better pictures and post them. I’ve done way too many bathroom remodels myself and could guide you in the right direction. I have some ideas based on the picture you already posted but need to see a bit more.
Tub 2 I plan to leave in and replace the shower head. Maybe tile if budget allows.
