What are you hoping from this group? Without any context like YOE, specific role, etc. There is nothing to add. To be clear, a referral does not guarantee a phone screen. Even more so if your Googlerbindicated they are kot close to your work/performance (ie. random or extended network referral)

You absolutely may have been qualified, but there’s dozens of reasons you may not have gotten through. Internal hire, more qualified candidates, role cancelled, etc. I also agree with G2, in that almost every role I see posted, someone with 2-3 more years of experience is actually hired. Anecdotally I feel the post too low of YOE for roles. Also- you only have 30 days to apply to 3 roles *with each referral link*. Your referral can send you a 2nd link, but note the 30 day limit per referral. And agree with G1 to make sure it’s a quality referral.

Thank you for the insight. I’m absolutely going to try to target roles I’m overqualified for. It’s worth the “step down” to me at this point in my life.

For what it's worth, I had a referral for a role with 8 YOE requirements (which is what I had), I had a friend refer me and ping the hiring manager on my behalf and I didn't get a phone screen. I ended up later applying for and getting a role with 5YOE requirements and came to find out the person that got the 8YOE role had 11 YOE. Not sure what your specifics are, but I found I got more traction at lower YOE minimum - just be ready to fight for the right level.

Thank you for sharing this experience. I’ll keep this in mind when I apply for the next position

Currently in the US but interviewing for a UK-based firm and role. The comp level they are throwing around is £250k TC. Is this reasonable for a Director-level role with 12 YOE? My comparator would be wait 18-24mo to become a consulting partner - in the US that starts at $450k/£325k. For the purposes of this question, assume I’m optimizing for initial comp, not long term potential, and not livability, Intl experience, WLB, CoL etc. Thanks!
