Davidson in Lake Norman area is a hidden gem, especially if you are WFH
+1 for davidson since you’re WFH
Depends where you’re commuting to. If you’re WFH or uptown, either north or south works.
South Carolina has lower taxes. Lake Norman has better schools. Lake traffic is brutal in the spring, summer. Fort Mill is also getting traffic-y.
The Fort Mill school system is one of the better ones. Mecklenburg overall isn’t good, but as one person said the southern area of Charlotte and Waxhaw is better.
I’d go Lake Norman area! Look at Davidson! One of the best places to be in the state!
Charlotte has better schools, don’t go fort mill if this is your priority
If we are talking public schools, the schools in fort mill are way better than in Charlotte
If you're looking for public, Mooresville schools are great. A few very highly rated (and super competitive) charters around Lake Norman as well. Good (expensive) private schools too.
I move back to Charlotte and have been here for 19 years. Here is what I suggest. Southside versus the Northside - South Park, Park Rd., Ballantyne, Waxhaw/Weddington, and Martin Ridge. Public schools: Providence High School, Audrey Kell High School, Weddington, or Marvin Ridge with elementary and middles schools feeding into them - all good schools. Private schools: Country Day, Charlotte Latin, etc. High end shopping and eateries on the Southside. Medical: atrium Health or Tryon Medical. Both kids went to public schools in Charlotte. One is at Yale. Best wishes.
Yeah the South is good but still overall Charlotte school system is worst for the Black kids in certain area of the city. I have oldest daughter that lived in Ballantyne area she does not have any children at all. She is ready to relocate to another state.
Lake Norman is a great place to move to. I would highly suggest it. I used to nanny for some folks who lived there and the school district was really great.
RE Broker here 🙋🏼♂️
Fort Mill SD is rated #1 in the area on Niche.com, both this website and Greatschools.org can give you a good idea about your options.
As far as housing goes, you’ll spend less away from Lake Norman if that’s a priority to you. Steele Creek and Fort Mill area’s are both great options and have booming neighborhoods.
Feel free to DM me, I’m happy to answer any questions more specific to your situation.
both wfh
Depends on budget
I moved to South Charlotte last year from NJ.
My brother in law lives in Fort Mill. Housing has appreciated a lot (including in Fort Mill) and you are likely to hit the upper limit of your budget easily
Steele creek in Charlotte, in particular the palisades area would be good, newer higher rated elementary school and a brand new high school, some charters nearish, I suspect the area will have a new middle school soon…also close to fort mill to save on gas/groceries/etc. dm me with questions
I live in Charlotte area three places you name are great area for school system you can’t go wrong and great place for family with young children.
I agree with you Charlotte school is the worst.
Guess I’m wildly mistaken on the school systems
This. Yes, your taxes will be lower in SC but if your kiddos are older, the options for in state tuition in NC are much better, IMO.
Traffic sucks in fort mill and they are going to have to deal with at least 5+ years of construction to add tolls south
Best school districts are in North (schools that feed into William Hough HS), Central Charlotte (schools that feed into Myers Park HS) and South (Audrey Kell HS)
