Remember the big 4 consultant who got screwed because he expensed reloading his starbucks card? What was the verdict on that? Is that allowed

Not allowed at D. Have to use personal money and manually expense every coffee

Also, you may not realize that there is a thing called level 3 data which means much more than just the merchants and amount is shared with your company, for example full receipt details can be shared via credit card processing. So regardless of what shows up on the receipt or your statement, there's another incentive to doing the right thing.

like

^ this data fed by AMEX is how PwC can avoid paper receipts for many vendors such as hotels.

like

That actually happened?

like

C1, you are fine on yours until you get audited. Then it is a problem.

like

Can't do it at Deloitte. I just use my personal AMEX to reload and then expense manually

like

Deloitte 2 has the right idea. Keep it clean, transparent and don’t set yourself up for an audit

like

I’ve been fine on mine - a manager on my team does it literally multiple times each month because he orders Starbucks for the entire team everyday.

I don't think they can actually tell if it was a gift card load when done at the store.

If you do it through the app does it fuck it up?

It will say Starbucks card reload- hence the problem

I have never had a problem. I’ll wait till they tell me to stop?

^a good friend of mine went with that approach on his first project at D after asking for permission for a policy exception and hearing nothing back. His last day was Monday, they called him at 7 am. They're sending him a box to mail back his laptop and phone.

The problem with card reloads is that expense departments can’t tell what is a business purchase versus something you used on a Saturday afternoon. To avoid this, either just pay actuals on individual transactions, or be prepared to show your purchase history from the app in an audit.

DD1: yeah never a good idea to mess with policy. Always ask, and if they don’t respond, hound them. “You didn’t reply so i did it” is not a verifiable excuse

I don't think EY get to level three type of data from hotels which is why we are required to fax all hotel receipts.

I don’t think whether your employer gets additional card transaction data is relevant to this though. If you’re going to try to expense card refills, you’ll need to be able evidence that those refills are only for business use and be prepared to be told to stop expensing in that manner. This is an oft—abused area and our expense departments know it. To avoid the issue, either put individual transactions on your corporate card, or refill against your personal card and manually expense each purchase. Both entirely avoid the problem.

This thread is dumb. Why would anyone ever do that?

Curious to hear from people (or general thoughts) who have gone from FAANG to Big 4 or Accenture Consulting. I always hear about the opposite. What are the driving factors? Is it worth the potential short term pay decrease, and the decline in WLB (I was previously at a mid-market consulting firm, so I was used to the ups and downs of WLB). I currently find myself getting bored regularly, not to mention the lack of true career direction here.

I’m confused. I was furloughed from a regional firm, and I’m scared of being laid off. I have an offer from a small cpa firm and an offer from a mid tier firm. My goal has always been to join b4, and I’m going to try when the hiring freeze (HF) is lifted...but what should I do right now? 1. Stay at regional, apply to b4 after HF 2. Take mid tier offer, apply to b4 after HF 3. Take small firm offer, apply to b4 after HF 4. Take mid tier offer, become senior, and then apply to b4 2 years later

How's a US CMA vs CIMA? Big 4 M in a finance transformation role who's become somewhat of a generalist who knows GBS and operating model design. Looking at this decision to study as an accelerator to exit consulting and having a safety net to do so. Preferred roles are in finance business partnering, program management or key account Mgmt (won't need a finance degree for the last two, I assume, but will help to drive conversations nevertheless).

What are benefits packages like outside the Big 4, particularly at MANGA (I guess that’s the new acronym with Meta), Salesforce, etc? I always assumed Deloitte’s benefits were on the more generous side but curious how we go up against some of these tech companies who also generally pay more. I’m paying $3796/yr for a family HDHP where the total OOP max is $7600 ($3800 for individual). D throws in $1k to HSA if you max personal.

Do you guys at BCG think it would be a smart decision to make a lateral move to PL from Big 4? Have great network and support at current company. The MBB brand, 20k increase in TC, and potential better exit opportunities would be reasons to move. Worried about the challenges of starting from scratch at BCG, proving myself as IC in first few projects, and probably a worse WLB. Would love any insights TIA!
