Renting a cabin with some friends for New Years, everyone’s bringing a new bottle to sample, what should I bring? Generally speaking, the audience is fairly well versed in whisky, don’t be afraid to get weird with it. $100 price limit.

Yamazaki 12, Port Charlotte 10 year old, Lagavulin 16, Caol ila 12 — four of my favorites around that price range that are a bit more under the radar than your typical macallans etc..

like

Port Charlotte is my favorite Islay it’s a huge winner among everyone I let try it

Sagamore Spirit Rye 8-yr Old, Kamet Indian Single Malt Whisky, Glenmorangie A Tale of Winter, Longrow Peated. All under 100 bucks here in CA. Enjoy!

None of the above. Smoke Wagon is the company name, nothing to do with the product characteristics. With that said, it’s one of the better MGP barrel picks out there with caramel, cinnamon and ginger notes on the palate and a milder abv bite.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I ended up going with a bottle of Teeling Blackpitts and a bottle of redbreast for comparison (have never had either). But I added a bunch of these to my list!

like

Eh Taylor, blade and bow, willett rye, balvenie 14/12, glenfarclas 17, any of the Irish spots, aberlour 16, Longmorn 16, aramut scotches, arran scotches

If they are whisky buffs already, I’d try to find something local that they are unlikely to have had before.

Belle mead could also be a good choice heard great things and it’s smaller production

Glendronach Revival. One most people haven’t heard of but everyone will love it.

Mellow Corn! Alpha move! In all seriousness, I would recommend the MM Fae-02 (Bourbon) or Redbreast 12 year Cask Strength (Irish whisky) or Hibiki Harmony. (Japanese whisky)

Jefferson’s ocean

Ardbeg Uigedail

Love it, but was what got brought to the last shared tasting

Leopold brothers Bottled in Bond Bourbon.
Anything from Compass Box. Spice Tree or Story of the Spaniard are crown pleasers.

Milam & Greene Single Barrel is a winner too for bourbon.

Day 12: “The Chita Single Grain Whiskey” by Suntotu Never heard of this, but the label also says Nikka.

Body: Light bodied.
Nose: I smelled banana and nuts.
Palate: Some wood elements and black pepper.
Finish: A bit rough with an afterburn, and a hint of sweetness.
Verdict: It's a no go for me. I do like the Suntory Toki though.
