Are you able be her guardian? I had a cousin who was in a similar situation and she stayed with me for a few years. She was a teen but wasn’t as hard as I though it would be. Or you can see of you can get her into therapy, she’ll need some sort of outlet. You can also have her spend school breaks or summers with you if that’s easier.

I was the kid in an unfortunate home and while i had a great social life outside of it, i to this day wish i had been put up for adoption or taken by a family member. I could have made new friends.

Can you connect her with a professional support system to help her process her trauma? Emotional needs are going to be as important as money. Not sure if her parents need to know about therapists but something less official like a support group might help too? And the ppl running it might be able to support you as well

My fear about therapy is that her parents won’t support it - growing up I needed it and my dad refused and said it was for “weak people” 😑 I’m going to look into support groups, the only thing that might make that difficult is that she’s so young but I’ll definitely look, ty!

Are you saying that her mom and your dad are unable to take care of her and you’re trying to rescue her from your dad? Sounds like family therapy. Or if it’s really bad get child protective services involved. In the meantime be a mentor and positive role model, and offer her a safe place to stay when you can.

It truly is. I had to experience a lot of the same things growing up and I know what it does to someone as they become an adult, so it’s heartbreaking seeing it happen all over again.

I had an interview for an senior mgmt role at a bank and the interview was going very well. Beginning of the interview, she mentioned my resume was very impressive. She also said I was extremely intelligent and that I had a bright future; however they’re interviewing people with over 26 years of experience and would want someone more seasoned. I’m feeling super discouraged. Why bother with my resume at all?

Invest in revamping tech skills or going full management? I'm an Expert EM, with experience managing both data science and generalist consulting teams. Before the Firm, I was fairly technical (grad school in top CS eng school and brief startup experience) but I'm a bit rusty after ~3 years of consulting. Which exits should I invest in, tech route (e.g. SWE/DS) or management (e.g. Director role or PM)? I'm trying to optimize for WLB while not downgrading pay.

Can’t get over depression around one mistake. I don’t want to get too specific but it was financial related and involved missing out on a massive amount of money. I didn’t hurt anyone and i also got happily married and got a puppy this year. I’ve had a rough year at work (largely because of depression) but they stuck by me and now I’m on a great role with a team i love. Also lots of interviews. And yet, i can’t get over this one thing and “what could have been.” hate how ungrateful I’m being.

Suggestions for handling a peer who constantly uses their years of experience to curtail discussions? Both of us are SM’s leading teams within the same Market so we talk often. This SM will say things like “I have 15 more years of experience than you so I am better at this than you/I know how to handle these things”. It’s infuriating and I often want to respond with “And I’m 15 years younger than you and in the same position, so I must be doing something right!” (Cont)

An opportunity sort of fell into my lap and wanted to get other thoughts. Internal audit manager role, 100% remote, 20% base increase plus better benefits. I work on a lot of audits on the tax side so am familiar with audit. M4 in big 4, not sold on staying in tax. Would I be qualified and is this a terrible idea?

Does anyone else hate the interviews that you think have gone well, but then you end up being ghosted? I thought I did well because the interviewer told me I would ‘fit right into the team and team culture’ and said ‘keep an eye on your email, we move quickly and you’ll probably hear about next steps in the next few days’. Makes me feel like I am terrible at reading situations (on top of being terrible at interviewing). I hate not knowing what I did wrong and what I should be fixing.
