Requesting thoughts on developing a registered agent / local business advice (contacts, defense, small real estate masters, etc.) client book. I am thinking about developing semi-passive income streams for myself as a member of a small firm who does litigation and some of this work already. Any advice or anecdotal experience, anyone?

Partners/shareholders - how many hours are you expected to bill on work vs client dev and firm/associate management? My firm keeps saying that "there's no such thing as a relationship partner" and everyone top-to-bottom is expected to log 2000 hours/year on real billable work. Marketing etc is done on top of that. Is that normal?! If so, I'm going to have to totally rethink my life goals.

3 Months back I switched to Infosys as a react developer. The project i am tagged to started from scratch and there is a lot to learn. However parallelly I am also studying DSA and System design since last 6 months. But now I am not able to give enough time to DSA because of this project. I started my firm recently (immigration) and am a true solo. I have experience in a few very specific case types and do lots of research, but don't have enough experience to easily strategize for each consult. I know this will come in time as I do more types of cases and have a background of knowledge to pull from, but I need to grow my business too. I think hiring a very capable paralegal would be the best option, but I'm paying myself 1k a week. I doubt I'd be able to pay an employee. Ideas?

I believe improving one’s sales conversion rate is something everyone want to improve but no one wants to admit they would like to work it. Funny how lawyers will spend thousands on seminars to improve trial skills. But this topic is not discussed in our profession. I have read books in sales. But am unable to find any for lawyers. Solo that has outgrown DIY document management/billing. Looking to make the leap to an integrated document management and billing software system. Clio is the front runner based on my research to date (I have not yet taken it for the free test drive). Anyone else have any recommendations? Any obvious shortcomings/downfalls with Clio? When did you know you were “ready” or you knew it was time to go out on your own and start a solo practice? What things should I consider before taking that step? How hard is it? I don’t know where to get started or how to get started. I barely have 4 months of experience working at my firm (just passed the bar in May 2021 and got hired in June 2021). Would you all recommend to stick it out longer and get more experience? Would going out on my own anytime within the next year be foolish?

Our firm is growing fast and we need to add another attorney to keep up with the work. Our compensation package is 20-30% higher than what others firms in our area are offering. However, I’m still finding it difficult to get qualified associate to even apply for the position. I think part of the problem may be because we are located in a mid-sized city rather than a major metro area. For a Rule 45 subpoena duces tecum, can I mail it to the stat agent for a company or LLC? I took a case over from another firm and they sent subpoenas with a process server who was unable to personally deliver the subpoenas to the stat agent. I have always just mailed them.

I'm a solo bringing in Associate to become partner. Associate has been compensated with a base salary, plus 1/3 of earnings for business he brings in. Firm expenses are around 55-60% of gross revenue. He brings in around 30% of revenue. How best can I bring him in, and at what percentage to be fair? Was thinking 20%, with 5% incremental increases as his business grows hopefully to greater than 30% of total revenue. Thoughts?

Anyone have any tips or advice on what to do when you’re representing a contractor who will receive membership interest in a startup company as compensation and the startup has expressed they do not have attorney to draft the company docs such as the membership transfer agreement and the amendment to the operating agreement? Nor do they have the funds.
