Requesting thoughts on developing a registered agent / local business advice (contacts, defense, small real estate masters, etc.) client book. I am thinking about developing semi-passive income streams for myself as a member of a small firm who does litigation and some of this work already. Any advice or anecdotal experience, anyone?

I apologize for the self-aggrandizement. This is a large part of my business. I have copious fellow attorneys who offer their clients expertise in all fifteen areas of law through a partnership with my legal resource. Your clients will still rely on you for your area(s) of expertise but will be able to access top local attorneys in all other areas of law. Thus, making you their legal resource for everything legal. Your clients are assured of the highest level of service as we are most likely one of the partner firms largest if not their largest clients.

What is your legal resource?

Partners/shareholders - how many hours are you expected to bill on work vs client dev and firm/associate management? My firm keeps saying that "there's no such thing as a relationship partner" and everyone top-to-bottom is expected to log 2000 hours/year on real billable work. Marketing etc is done on top of that. Is that normal?! If so, I'm going to have to totally rethink my life goals.

Hello Everyone,
3 Months back I switched to Infosys as a react developer. The project i am tagged to started from scratch and there is a lot to learn. However parallelly I am also studying DSA and System design since last 6 months. But now I am not able to give enough time to DSA because of this project. Will it be a wise idea to resign and take a break of 3 months to cover up all the DSA and System design to aim for a product based company?

As realtors, our worst and best friend are the contractors, being friends with the contractor that remodelled a home you are going to sell is a plus because you can know for sure what kind of improvements were made to the house and why; and what kind of things are pending to be improved, that way you can provide real information to the client. You know what they say: a happy client always comes back to you.

Additional Posts in Small Law / Solos

I started my firm recently (immigration) and am a true solo. I have experience in a few very specific case types and do lots of research, but don't have enough experience to easily strategize for each consult. I know this will come in time as I do more types of cases and have a background of knowledge to pull from, but I need to grow my business too. I think hiring a very capable paralegal would be the best option, but I'm paying myself 1k a week. I doubt I'd be able to pay an employee. Ideas?

Our firm is growing fast and we need to add another attorney to keep up with the work. Our compensation package is 20-30% higher than what others firms in our area are offering. However, I’m still finding it difficult to get qualified associate to even apply for the position. Question re: salary. I’m thinking about accepting an offer at a small (4-6 attorneys) transactional firm. I would primarily be working on NDAs for clients. The role sounds great (no billable hours, fully remote, flexible hours/ can work from anywhere); however, the salary is $70K. I’m a new attorney, with only one year of experience. I'm a solo bringing in Associate to become partner. Associate has been compensated with a base salary, plus 1/3 of earnings for business he brings in. Firm expenses are around 55-60% of gross revenue. He brings in around 30% of revenue. How best can I bring him in, and at what percentage to be fair? Was thinking 20%, with 5% incremental increases as his business grows hopefully to greater than 30% of total revenue. Thoughts?
