Have read and re read contract and can’t find anything to support their interpretation. More interested if anyone else has heard this from within PublicisGroupe. Boss is definition of mid level micro manager.
LoL what. “Interpreted”? That’s bullshit. Especially at your level. Super weird. Tell your boss it’s unprofessional to not allow you to tell your team and clients - you have personal relationships.
And go ahead and read the offer letter you signed. No way that’s in there
My preference is for them to announce to clients but want to be able to tell my team in person. Also want to ensure that my team find out in a timely manner - have seen other members of the team have their leaving announcements issued only 2 days prior. Just me who thinks this is weird? 🤷🏼♀️
thanks for this thread! happened to me as well. felt weird and unprofessional but i trusted my gut. clients even complained about how they managed the situation. idiots and their egos, indeed.
I would not involve an attorney. There is no way HR will waste legal resources on this trivia
I thought this happens at every agency honestly. More so in regards to alerting the client though.
Which is always ironic because then they drag their feet on how they want to spin it to the client, then finally tell them a day or two before you depart, and the client gets pissed that they didn’t have more notice. EVERY SINGLE TIME. It’s almost comical at this point.
Oh well! Congrats on the new gig OP!
Ha. Idiots. There is a non disparagement / non disclosure clause but that does not preclude saying ' I am starting a new job on x date'. Is your boss a mid level micro managing know nothing ?
That’s a classic Publicis move from my experience. Don’t let your personal relationships get burned to protect your agency. They wouldn’t do it for you.
I bet if you got an attorney they would back down.
I have not heard this at all and find it bizarre
Creates mistrust in the culture. Bad move. Clients will also be annoyed.
Yeah nah. My company like to do the staff announcement but no clause.
Can you ask what the concern is? Maybe they want a coverage plan in place before the client announcement and that can take a little time to sort?
There is not all that much they can do to you... fire you on the spot? Bigger question is it’s a small industry and unless there is a reason no point in burning bridges. Clients will know that you gave two weeks notice and agency management asked you to sit on the news. Happens all the time
It’s your news to tell. Tell the people who are important to you.
I don’t think that’s in the contract? But at your level, think you can respect their wishes if it’s for business reasons - eg they want to confirm the succession plan first so as not to freak out the ppl below you on the team. If you have specific people you want to tell sooner, voice that to your boss and hear them out if they have valid reasons against it
I would tell people who you want to tell but not in writing. Leave no trails. No group emails or the like.
I personally think, let them tell everyone. You can send email to them after - telling them how much you enjoyed working with them. same happened to me and I had a chance to talk to my team (and clients) after.
