Do you have any budget/max either total or pp? How many people? Do you want a sit down dinner or a private space?

like

Check out freeman’s. They do have private dining (I’ve actually attended a winter baby shower there), food is great, the place is super cute and it’s kinda iconic. Had been there for a long time and freeman’s alley has great street art

Love freeman’s idea!

Union square cafe?

40-50 people. Open to whatever format. Private space preferred—but also interested in something unexpected and “iconic New York”.

For example, we’re talking to the Grand Central Oyster Bar and Pete’s Tavern already. That’s the vibe.

PEAK (the view), Tavern on the Green (the setting), Gramercy Tavern (the food). I would also add Minetta Tavern. It has a certain charm to it and food is exquisite. Do not think they have private space, so would likely need to be a buyout.

Going into 2nd round interview at EY SaT on monday. First interview was 90 minutes split between normal first interview with a senior analyst (motivation, interests, experience etc) and a case interview + brain teasers with a senior manager.

What should I expect and/or prepare for on monday? Its 45 mins with a partner for an entry level position.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Surveying the crowd: do you all prefer receiving cash gifts or physical gifts from your registry?

We're recently married and got a mix of both, and I can't decide what I want to do for friends' weddings going forward. On the one hand, the cash gifts were incredible and financed our honeymoon. But I also enjoy looking at things around the house and remembering who gave them. I'm curious what everyone thinks!

I’m notoriously bad with “aesthetic” and design. I’ve hired all my vendors, including lighting and florals, but am now starting to think through what other decorations/logistical items are needed - signage, dessert table trays, guest book, bar top, etc... whenever I google how to start thinking about wedding decorations all the sites are just telling me to rent linens vs buy frames, which... isn’t helpful. How is everyone else here tackling this?!

Sorry for another question about tipping vendors, but can someone point to any norms for NYC/NJ-based weddings? We’ve received and seen a lot of “interesting” input from others like 20% vs. a flat amount of $100-$500 vs. for photography to tip 1-2% per image that we would hang up. And then what if a vendor has multiple helpers? For reference, 20% on some of our contracts is $1,200. *Specifically for vendors where tip is not included in their contacts.

Comment where you are cutting back to save money. Here are ours:
- Not doing a presidential suite, instead we’re getting a normal suite and using a conference room for hair/makeup/meals
- Centerpieces. We are doing a few bigger centerpieces, then small bud vases at the rest of the tables.
- Transportation for guests. Our wedding is in a major city and ubers are easily accessible.
- Flowers. No flowers for men, only the groom is getting a boutonnière. No flowers for parents/grandparents.

My wedding is making me miserable. We ended up choosing a city / venue that I’m not super thrilled with (it’s just not giving me aesthetic I want) and it’s turning out to be 3x expensive (part of rationale for choosing as it would be cheaper). I just hate my wedding and don’t know what to do. It’s too late to switch locations (we’ve just paid too many deposits). I know it shouldn’t matter etc but I’m still upset for not going with another city. Anybody ever felt similar?

Thoughts on the mother of the bride wearing white to the bridal shower? I (bride to be) would like my mom to wear a white dress she already has because it’s flattering on her and has a similar style to mine which I think would look cute but she’s worried that she shouldn’t wear white and what others might think. Wanted to see what others think of this, thanks!

Hi everyone - We are thinking of changing our wedding photographer after unsatisfactory engagement photos and unsatisfactory communication (unresponsive after multiple attempts). We paid a $450 retainer which we know will be not refundable. However, we are not sure about other liability as we read our contract and found these 2 clauses (in comments). Please advise! Definitely not happy with her and would like to switch to another one but also want to make sure we make the right move. Thanks!

Can we talk about wedding planners and upsells? Things with our planner started out great, but now every other conversation she's trying to upsell this, that, and the other thing...with no real regard to our budget. Anyone else realize thay they are a generous gift giver throughout the wedding planning process? I have never given less than $150. Also, the amount of $$ given to us has no tie to how close we are to the gift giver or the gift giver’s financial status. We have close wealthy friends giving $100 and not-as-close working class friends giving $300. Meanwhile, no siblings giving anything. Has this happened to others?
