Hey folks! Hope everyone is safe and sound. Who is working on billable work and who is on the bench ?
What are expected utilisation rates for entry level consultants? Been here 9 months and only done billable work for about 3 months of that. Bored out of my mind for the majority of my time here.
To those of you who have high billable requirements and are single, how do you manage your time? Especially those with pets.
Opinions? Management now requiring everyone to have 45 billable hrs per week, not including mandatory concepting n pitch work. Most people participating in 2-3 initiatives at same time. Is this normal
What’s the best thing for a new associate to do to get on billable work? I was mapped to an industry I have no experience in; how do I start gaining experience when I don’t have the experience to get on these projects?
Just got into a full time grad program for international affairs that starts in January of 2021. (completely changing careers). I need to stay working at my firm until then and possible after to get the billable hours for my CPA. I passed all 4 exams and I refuse to give let that go to waste...... how do I tell my employer I'll be going to school in a way that they'll still let me work part time? Extremely nervous they're just going to let me go.
Tax work at my law firm is not enough to keep me busy. Maybe I could start doing work in another department to supplement my billable hours. Is anyone here a part timer in another group? I’m thinking investment funds or start ups? Anyone else do this and any advice?
So I have completely lost interest in my area of practice mainly because I haven’t been exposed to many matters (our team is really slow) and I am the most junior in the team. So billable work is never constant. I feel like this has impacted my interest and stagnated my growth. I am thinking of moving into a different area of practice like TMT or PE, that I’m interested in. Has anyone ever done this? I’m actually depressed and I really hate being given work now. I have ADHD. Please advise
Has anyone noticed that busy season is changing into a marathon, not a sprint? I’m working close to 60 billable hours/week year round, and 70+ Feb - April. Is this a bigger trend?
How do you all track your billable hours? Want to move away from an excel sheet I manually update. Do you guys use software?
Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) I’ve been asking partners if I can assist in any projects so I can fill my plate, but I’ve only gotten small (4-6 hour) tasks handed my way.
Partner: I've been sitting on a request all week. You need to stop billable work and put together this deck today. And be quick about it. Cool? I thought so.
What is your hourly billable rate and title?
Ah! If the clients ever realize the number of billable hours wasted on making slides just ‘look’ pretty!!!!
I’ll be short of RSM’s billable hours goal of 1600 by around 300 hours by the end of fiscal year end. How fucked am I?
I just started at a new firm 3 months ago. A big jump for me with 1,800 billable hours. I feel like I’m drowning trying to make the hours :( I am exhausted at the end of every day. Does it get easier?
At my new job, we’re told to get 8 billable hours of work a day on our timesheet. Even when I thought I had a lot to work on, the most I could get was 5 hours. I’m super stressed about getting in trouble, even though I have actively asked for more work. I was unemployed for 9 months during this pandemic and I now I’m super afraid of losing my job again. Is this a normal practice? Idk how I’ll ever consistently have that much work.
People who work 50, 60, 70+ hours a week: how do you do that without putting your project over budget? Are your engagements written to have a resource work over 40+hours a week? Are you spending over 10-30 hours a week on added non billable time? What are y’all doing with all of that time?!
I just started at a firm and I’m new to billing. I’m getting a steady stream of billable work but I’ve had some down time as well as non-billable required trainings/meetings. How do you meet billing requirements if you are not billing for some or all of your workday?
Desi Fish’s,My VISA is going to expire in Nov, Got visa extension for next two years . Planing to go India with my wife in Dec and get My mom here .Can we attend Visa interview together with my Mom?
What is the culture and work/life balance at Havas Chicago like? Seeing mixed reviews on Glassdoor.
My Covid antibody test was negative but I swear I had Covid before.....I don’t understand this virus
Considering applying for an entry level business analyst (consulting) position at a competitor Big 4 firm. I just completed my first year in audit, so I’m wondering if it’s still appropriate for me to apply as entry level instead of experienced hire?
What are some of your favorite Breastfeeding friendly work clothes?? Trying to balance warmth for winter and functionality...style too but given covid wfh am less concerned with looking super nice.
I am burned out physically and mentally! Just not sure how to handle this feel! P.S I am married and a full time consultant... I usually like WFH so cant say I hate this current situation. I hate traveling for work. Anyone with me? How did/do u manage?
How far out can you typically set up interviews? Can I take two weeks before first interview?
Is there a difference between biz ops and regular strategy and ops role at Google ? They reached out for stat ops role but I heard biz ops is more consulting .
Well fuck. I got laid off. Just when you think you’re in the clear, 2020 brings the pain. Guess it’s true that the big title comes with a big target.
First time mom here - does time taken for maternity leave (non extended) count toward total years of experience? How does it (or does it?) show up on background checks?
Is anyone familiar with using Canvas for your classroom? Likes/Dislikes? Bonus points for uses in intermediate grade levels. 😉
Speed test!!! Wfh #gigabit fiber
When does the 60 day grace period start - after lay off announcement or after last severance paycheck? Thanks
My life is a Gordian knot of problems. Pretty much every major pillar is a mess: I’ve been trying to deal with abusive family for years, and recently my longterm boyfriend broke up with me, and my job is being given to someone else while I’m pushed to a lesser position. I’ve been trying so hard for so long. I’ve been job hunting for months. I am tired. It really feels like death is the quick and easy solution, the metaphoric “sword” that will solve the unsolvable.
What’s the typical salary / benefits package for a managing director at Deloitte (consulting, not accounting)?
Interviewing is stressful...
If anyone is looking for a job working in RSM's tax financial services group that has experience in either Private Equity, Hedge Funds, or Venture Capital space send me a message. Please have a resume for me to review and then I can get you setup for an interview. I am based on Los Angeles, but I am not concerned about location, as we need people in this space all throughout the firm. I spent 13 years with the big four before making the move and it was the best decision I have made.
