Reviews and experience with Upwork?

Been freelancing for years with them. The 20% cut is hard to stomach but overall, good experience. I've had consistent work off of there, although it's hard in the beginning but I make solid income off it now

I do content writing as well, although I'm trying to branch out to research as that's more of my interest! It is hard when you're starting out from scratch. I kept my rate relatively low in the beginning as I built up my profile and I've steadily raised it up. You'll have to put more work in the start but then it gets easier.

I've built a great portfolio with them and have ben able to take my business offline. I think it's a good starting point but the 20% cut is not ideal after a while. However, it is a good side hustle

I've been freelancing on Upwork since it was oDesk! Not a huge fan of the fees, but it's a secure way to find side work and earn some extra money. Plus, if you get a long-term client, the fees go down over time.

Not a big fan. People low ball you because you are in different country but it is good to start career if you have no previous work experience.

I've gotten great opportunities there, really helped propel my career and give me the skillsets I needed to be where I am today as an FTE.

Guys, thank you so much for your answers. Can you also tell what kind of projects do you take up?

I asked a junior to review production and asked them to focus on one issue. Turns out the records produced also included payments made by adverse party that undermine them pretty badly, it all came out at mediation, which failed. Should I reprimand the junior for not looking into those payments sooner, even though I told them to focus on another issue while reviewing production?

Friday thoughts on Strengths vs weaknesses: I have been told that I am solid in quant, but need development on the creative side of things - brainstorming, strategic frameworks, maybe even writing. If this situation can be improved, what should I do? books or videos or exercises? This doesn't seem easy to tackle at all... If this just reflects how I am like, does it mean I'm not fit for consulting in the longer haul (looking at SC, PM max)? Or perhaps I should focus on DD type of consulting?
