Rick, how much is this affected by the federal government? Is it mostly the state government that matters?

Sometimes I think you have to pick your poison. The federal government can be pretty harsh in its measures. The state government also has a pretty bad idea of what is needed in the classroom, usually. Plus they are always trying to cut the funding for schools. I tend to think the most important work is on the ground, locally. I know that is constrained by larger policies and budget but I have found that organizing in the school and with the families is the most rewarding. It is the place where we teachers and educators our strongest
