Have a 3 week old sleeping next to me. Busy season was a piece of cake compared to being a new parent!
AD1, I was about to say the same!
OP, parental leave is not a vacation. If you think you’re being killed now, multiply that by 10x. You don’t get much sleep as a parent, if any, for months, sometimes years. You’re a walking zombie. And you don’t get a mental break.

I have a baby except she takes all my money, wants all my attention, and calls me all day.. stressful af
Lol op I assume, doesn’t have any kids haha people who think leave is a breeze or is vacation is crazy. Haha You’re awake 2-3-4 times a night, if you’re the mother you’re awake longer and if you’re breastfeeding you’re awake way longer. I have a 2 year old and a new born but the 2 yo is the energy drainer since they need full attention.
Anyway, busy season was easier since all I had to do was sit in a computer and figure things out lol (I know there’s other things too lol)
Take some vacation time (or get some time out booked in the calendar) and recharge. Not sure having a child is the answer here just to get some parental leave - you can change your job whenever you choose, but having a child is at least 18 years investment of time where you're not the #1 priority!
Lol ey1 speaks the truth. Take a vacation. Parental leave is the opposite of a vacation. It’s the most work you’ll do in your life and then you go back to work exhausted and trying to juggle it all.
My son just recently turned one and he has been waking 2-12 times a night every night. Kids scream randomly, when they fall and hit their heads, when they stub their toes, when they want picked up when your hands are full, when they want something and can’t communicate their wants/needs, etc.
Maternity leave was literally so much harder than busy season. You are a parent 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for EVER. Busy season is a few months, non busy season has set hours. Being a parent is WILDLY unpredictable and no day looks the same. You think you got their nap schedule down? HA! Teething is a B*TCH. You think your kid is ready to sleep through the night? HA! Literally no one knows if or when their kid will sleep through the night and it might happen one day and then never again for 2 years.
Just my perspective. Overall, I love being a parent. But boy, it is absolutely nothing like I imagined it to be pre-baby.
I can only assume a woman would not have posted this.. While a leave from work is definitely so nice, and having a baby truly so very rewarding and a blessing, parental leave is very hard, exhausting, and anxiety-ridden for many.
Just start dating one of the new interns, their attention seeking/necessity will probably be close to the same as a newborn
When you come back from leave you’ll still have the workpapers but now you’ll also have a baby …the kid will be precious but won’t improve your wp experience a whole lot lmao
Kids are awesome - a huge blessing.
