Risk in giving notice before my bonus is paid? I’m trying to leave ASAP after my year end bonus because I can’t stand it. I also want to give more than two-weeks notice in order to clear conflicts / start getting off of deals. But I am worried that giving notice before my year end bonus might cause the firm to let me go before the bonus. Is this a real risk or an irrational fear? I’m at a V5 NYC

Hi I’m a reservist currently on deployment for 30 days under TCS order. The unit I’m attached to wants me to stay for another 3 months. I was told that I would be on PCS order instead of TCS. For those who lived in SF and/or NY before, do you have a preference? NY is great for finance opportunities but heard it's super cut throat. SF is great for tech opportunities and it seems more likely for females to find a relationship here compared to NY because more males than females here. Just by looking online, both places are comparable for rent and are small in apartment sizes. Is it worth talking to a trusted partner at my firm before I try to lateral for higher pay? I’m a 3rd year in management-side L&E at a well-regarded mid-sized firm in a major city. Our minimum is 1950, but I’m paid $100k less than 3rd years in big law (imo my firm is charging too little for our work). I also found out that I only make 3.7% more than my coworker who’s a 1st year. I like it here & don’t really want to leave, but I’m clearly being undervalued and deserve to be paid what I’m worth.

Drowning. Joined firm last summer, brought a decent little book, primarily litigation associate. I’ve been buried in numerous matters from my transferring clients and matters at my new, small-ish firm. I get consistently favorable results, im in the office all week, manage all my cases independently. After 6 months, just told billables are too low, turnaround time is too high, and theyre concerned about my fit. I feel like I’ve just been launched into a bunch of matters with little/no guidance.

Just got fired from BL firm in london after being there for 9 months; they said on the basis of performance which is ridiculous bcos I’ve had no negative feedback whatsoever. Does your firm do anything for yearly work anniversaries? It’s obviously not a big deal but I made it to a year at a firm with high attrition (at least ten associates in our division alone have left in my time here) and have received no acknowledgement of this fact. Nor have I heard anything about a year review. I’d take an atta boy and pat on the back.

So I accepted my offer from a new firm (where I am getting a 30k increase + benefits) and gave my two weeks yesterday but my boss was shocked. She wants to give me a counter offer tomorrow but ultimately told me she cannot give me the benefits the new firm is offering (health, dental, vision insurance, unl. PTO, 401k matching). Part of me already has my mind made up that I’m leaving but the other part has me thinking I might be making a mistake…. I am going to hear her out but IDK what to do!

My PA is crap. She messes up invoices, printing, and occasionally ‘forgets’ to read my emails. HR says they can’t let her go because she brings a good atmosphere and it would scare the other PAs.
