Rolled off my first project due to performance. I’m bummed and it’s the first time it’s happened to me. Talked to my coach and PM about it. Still feel like I have a scarlet letter.

Almost always leadership failure. We don’t hire stupid people in this industry (albeit we don’t like some of them), none of this work is beyond your ability. That doesn’t mean you aren’t still rolled off, just don’t take it personally - your confidence matters in this job. Protect yourself from shitbag asshole “leaders”. 🍻

^^^ We do hire stupid people. It’s a major reason we have so many people exited. That and just laziness

Sounds like you have the right mindset. You’re owning up to it. That’s a great start. Hang in there and keep doing what you do. If it becomes a trend, think about something new.

You have different skill set than what project is looking for OP. Don’t let this affect your confidence. Confidence is the key here. Give your 200% on the next project and you will come out with flying colors!!!

Thanks K1. Not gonna lie, it was humbling and depressing at the same time

D1 first project with new firm and got rolled off. I think about it and makes me cringe at my performance....but I take it as a learning experience

like

Be careful picking leadership for second project, since it's a new firm.

smart

Its def a big leadership thing. My peer has had to roll two people off and may have to roll a third off. Pretty sure it’s him and not them because he’s a giant dumbass. Usually with proper direction and feedback people don’t have issues unless they’re bums or are in a role that just doesn’t fit whatsoever. You don’t seem to have those issues

like

Don't take it personally. Keep trying.. some time BAD leaders can jeoparize.. so find a better project

Fuck man I got rolled off of a project for performance over two years ago and it came up in this years annual review saying that I haven’t been consistent. It was basically a scarlet letter for me so I hope that doesn’t happen to you

like

It is definitely a scarlet letter and can snowball quickly preventing you from getting new assignments. Happened to my counselee

uplifting

Damn get a new job

First project and you got rolled off? Or first time you got rolled off? Honestly - it sucks but you just gotta figure out how you can improve. And do it. We’ve all had shitty performances

Thanks director 1 and k2 for words of encouragement. Confidence is def the key. Trying to get that back while searching for my next gig. Can’t wait to prove myself on my next project (if I can find one! 😉)

A1- I wish I could say it was the leadership but it was me. I became hyper focused on the strategy due to the client and couldn’t focus on the execution part. Then kept getting behind trying to right the ship. Like I said, it’s a learning experience. Simple consulting things I forgot to do or getting stressed out doing. It was crazy. Lost sleep and like 20 lbs.

OP I feel you, except it’s the opposite for me - Client is focused on delivery and leadership keeps pushing big picture. Haven’t been rolled off yet but definitely have been dropping the ball :/

Life is a test, only a test. You can do it OP!

D3- I feel like that’s what happening to me right now....been reaching out for projects but no dice. Trying to be positive but worrried

Op -time to move on from the accounting firm ..

hey all, i’m 3 years into my career. some decent work produced, some awards (mostly student). after getting laid off last fall and many many applications and emails sent, I’ve decided to spend time and money on a creative PR stunt to get my dream agencies’ attention. I’m only in year 2 of my career. Do I take this job for a year, deal with the downsides, pay off a huge chunk of my debt, then get back to fun stuff?
