Rolling off and found out it was based on performance. First project. Any success stories?

Second P1, this should NOT be a surprise or something you just "found out". If it was, go to leadership immediately as they were not coaching or leading you effectively at all.

like

You're right I wasn't coached effectively - came as a shock.

like

Yikes. What happened? Didn't they give you feedback of things to work on?

like

I thinks it's more about a fresh outta school MBA who is at a senior level, without any consulting or industry experience then a comparison of educational merit.

like

Try to preserve your review.. as D1 mentioned, if no one gave you a heads up I would say that you were told things were going well and could have changed if given any indication... if they did give you proper warning, just focus on learning what the problems were and adapting next time.. have a positive attitude and don't worry, sometimes projects just can't afford to train people enough and it's not always your fault

like

Yes you need to be able to reflect on the changes that you need to make

like

Same q I have EY3 - education does not equal good analysts. Feedback should have been given no matter what your background is if you weren't meeting expectations.

like

😨😨😨

Agree with EY1. Probably you need to learn some things, everyone does. However, separately, this is your career and livelihood. They owe it to you to give you fair warning of low performance and perhaps opportunity to improve. If you're post MBA would probably throw someone under the bus or level with them to make sure you don't get screwed.. if undergrad, probably doesn't matter as much, just be pleasant and just let the team know you could have adjusted with feedback

like

Why does MBA or no MBA matter? Curious

like

Expectations are higher for more senior people, if it's literally first job, first project out of undergrad, I would just be less aggressive about throwing someone under the bus and covering your ass, as more growing pains are expected

like

Happened to me when I was a senior on my second project .. make sure you connect with leadership and your counselor.. have a conversation that you wanna understand what went wrong and want to improve based on feedback .. and next time .. talk to the project manager regarding expectations when starting the project .. you can also be more proactive going forward and ask for feedback proactively .. good luck .. not a big deal for the first time

like

Are you a senior out of MBA?

🍿

Nor so big a deal first time. Second time, people will wonder. Third time, it will be a problem and maybe you should be rethinking career choices. Sucks if you feel you weren't coached/managed effectively, but think carefully about making too big a deal about that. Two sides to every story and you did get rolled off. But seriously. Just buck up and move on. Do better next time. Live and learn. Not the end of the world.

Agree with D2. If you're a senior, you're expected to not be a disaster, even if you're new to consulting.

I seriously doubt some of the recruiters and hiring managers in the big4s now a days, their decisions w.r.t. designation and pay depends on their mood and willingness to work on a particular day.. They will interview for X designation and then will ghost you and then will come back with a lower level and pay saying would you be interested?🤣 Why would somebody be interested to join at a lesser pay, when he/she is currently well in his/her job and just found the opportunity more interesting...
