Rollover old firm 401k/wealth builder into current employer 401k or new rollover IRA? Pros and cons? Thank you for thoughts!

Do you or do you plan to use a backdoor Roth IRA? If so don’t roll it into an IRA. Assuming the backdoor stays available. How are the investment options on the new 401k? If good would probably roll it there.

Assuming it does not cut removed by Congress, it is very easy to do. Not a pain at all. You open a traditional and Roth IRA. That takes a couple minutes with fidelity. You contribute to the traditional Ira. Wait a couple days for the money to settle. Convert it to Roth IRA and then invest. Repeat each year. Literally a couple minutes of effort each year and a little waiting.

Full time role with 3 weeks vacation and benefits or contract opportunity with 20k more in potential salary.

Little background, I have been a loyal employee and have only worked at 1 firm for about 6 years now. Looking for more growth and obviously money.

Need some suggestions on what to consider and any pitfalls that I should be aware of.

Thanks

Serious question - is there a reverse FIRE strategy? I like the idea of saving and retiring early, but the one hiccup I see (and sorry if this is grim) is if you die earlier than expected. I’d be worried that I would minimize lifestyle and fun for retirement at 50 but I’d die at 49. How about a way to work 9 months out of the year and retire/travel/relax for 3 months? This way you guaranteed your dreams/etc. are fulfilled

likesmart

Always been a fan of FIRE and reading about it has definitely helped my finances but I can’t help but wonder if the movement is more about lifestyle change than early retirement.

After you achieve FI,you basically have to maintain the lifestyle that got you there.

What if you want to go on a lavish vacation or buy that flatscreen TV? Are you supposed to do away with material goods entirely? I suppose you could keep working for discretionary $ and live off interest but then you’re not retired.

I’ve found that having an authoritarian management style helps but it does not feel genuine.
