Either way, dating inside or outside the industry, you’ll have problems. That’s why I date trees.
Diversify your revenue streams. Marry well, kids. Only 5% of people in this industry are 50 or older.
Outside. I want to be able to turn work off when I’m with them. It’s too easy to complain about work or just talk about it, when when I’m just seeing friends who work in the industry. I’d rather not bring it with me.

My wife is a special ed teacher - she definitely gets it.
I always dated at least related to our industry. Not only because we understand each other better but mostly there are a lot of common interests as well.
My now husband used to be Account Director but moved client side. We both appreciate a certain understanding of what the other does during day time.
My boyfriend is a writer but for film. I don't show him my stuff until it's in its final phases and same for him, anything fresher than that and we try to give advice that pisses the other off 😂😂
Currently dating someone in the industry....and I’ll admit it’s hard to turn off work when home at times. I don’t mind it sometimes, especially if your partner is looking for advice and/or going on a healthy rant, but I know I’ve had my fair share of work/life discussions with him. He gets it...we therefore make more effort in planning great trips & disconnecting when it’s really not necessary. It doesn’t always work for everyone....but I do find comfort in someone knowing what the hell my job is and the pressures it entails at times.
I have dated inside and outside of the industry. The people outside of the industry had difficult schedules and long days too, so there was a mutual understanding and respect there.
My boyfriend is an engineer. He doesn’t get the late nights and unpredictable schedule and idea of waiting for feedback until 10pm but it’s super nice to date someone outside the industry. It’s a breath of fresh air. It keeps me living in the real world.
Take what you can get. My life motto
Boyfriend is also a strategist. Works well for us. But this is a very personal decision. Really depends on you & whoever you date. Too many other factors outside of the industry your partner works in
Dating? What’s that like for someone single in their 50s? At this point I’ll start with breathing & taller.
Senior CW 3, kinda stealing jokes there, huh? What a writer.
