Create your storyboard in the first 3 days. Vet the storyboard w the client and partner to make sure you are answering the questions they want

Take time to get to know your team. Learn their strengths (even where they may be better than you) and figure out how to use and develop them. The more invested you are in your team, the more they're going to be invested in your project which should ultimately make you more successful.

Make sure you have buy in from not only leadership, but secure the staff and seniors support since they will be doing most of the background work

Take your staff's input into account. If they feel valued they'll put in even more effort!

Since George Floyd's murder and the sudden Corporate America "wokeness," I (black guy) have been routinely contacted by unacquainted Partners who explicitly state something to the effect "Client X wants diversity, so we'd like you on this deal..." It really comes across as tone deaf and completely patronizing. I appreciate the efforts to diversity (albeit forced), but Partners really need to learn how to not be so supercilious in the approach. You don't have to overtly state that I'm the quota.

Hi 🐠, need some advice. Was told by my manager that time doing research (for info related to my client) is not client billable and has to be charged to the overhead code. This strikes me as fundamentally wrong, esp bc this is a flat rate project so the hours will just affect my utilization / internal metrics, not how much the client is billed. I asked for a non-billable code that counts towards utilization but was told my utilization is fine even though I’d be billing <40hrs & to use OH code

I rolled off a project 3 months ago. They keep reaching out and asking me to help onboard new teammates to give them historical knowledge (it’s a long-term project). Do I have to keep doing this? Or does it get to a point where I can say I don’t have the time and there must be someone more recent who can help?

I took a transformation lead role in industry a year go. However, my role is de facto program manager lead per internal job title. However, I wear multiple hats. I have a small team of project mgrs and oversea the deployment of transformation initiatives. I also manage the financials (cost savings) for the transformation and report that up to CFO. How do I position this experience for new opportunities? I know the stigma that comes with PMO roles so I’m worried about exit ops? Looking for advice

I just inherited someone and made him a Creative Project Manager. He is naturally a good PM (but never did it officially), and is a great people person, but doesn't have any professional experience as a CPM. I want to get him some great training so he can be great at it. We use InMotion Now as our project management software (which is generally great for us). Do you have any recommendations on any online trainings, seminars, podcasts, whatever, that I can pass along to him? TIA.
