It’s really a personal preference which requires introspection and spreadsheet analysis.
Spoken like a true accountant
This is obviously highly dependent on personal preference.

This is a bit like asking "Italian food or Mexican food, which is better?"
Well I could eat Italian food every day and not have a problem, but not Mexican food. That being said, I am Italian
Urban.
Walk or train everywhere. No need for a car which pollutes, is highest likelihood of death, is expensive to maintain. Cars drive slower in cities than in rural/suburbs because of one-ways and crosswalks and stop signs in cities and no sidewalks in suburbs / rural every 4th house. Walking anywhere is risking your life in rural/suburbs. Hard to take kids on bike rides / scooters when you live in a place everyone drives and therefore races. Driving seriously sucks the soul out of you.
Share walls to save heat. Again, more efficient / environmental. Though you may prefer townhouses to floors since noise can come from above but not usually from the side.
Restaurants and bars and libraries and museums and concerts and festivals and culture and gyms and universities.
Chance for 300 friends on your block rather than 20. And 300 on the next. And the next. And the next. Higher chance they come from diverse backgrounds.
Makes you passionate about the community. Gets you involved in grassroots efforts.
Awesome environment for school kids. Friend from school lives next door and across the street and 6 houses away and 7 houses away and 20 houses away.
Playgrounds are a way better experience in the city. You go to parks and the public pool and there are actually kids there who play together rather than everyone having their own yard / pool and never going to the parks.
Higher chance of finding another job if yours changes.
Wifi everywhere.
Less religion.

I live in a town of 300 in a county of 10,000 and love it. Nearest town with than 10,000 is 3 hours away. I'm stressed out by people and social interaction so I am at peace here and I'm grateful my job let me be remote.
I grew up rural and am living urban. I love my city life and did not like growing up rural but after living in the city you get to see the pros and cons of both.
Do you want to live in a city or in a small town?

Apples or oranges, which taste better?
Depends where you are in life. If you’re young and single, go live in a city and enjoy life. If you’re old with kids, probably better to let that dream go and get a house in the burbs. Maybe start a garden in the free time you likely don’t have.
If you have to ask this question, you’re city. I couldn’t imagine ever living in town, my college years were awful having somebody on top of or right next to me at all times.
For me urban all day.

100% urban if I had to choose between NYC and deep West Virginia.
But I’m with EY 4 — suburban is more liveable for me in most cases.
