Just had my comp call and GT seems to be taking care of people. If you’re at GT, wait and see what your comp call is. If not, hmu for a referral.

I feel a bit guilty thinking about quiting because the entire group is understaffed and we desperately need an additional member on my current client since the client is ramping up on deal volume... but at the same time I feel like I can be earning more $ in this market even without my cpa. My current thoughts are quit soon if my raise isn't where I want it to be so I can come back to the fdd market with my license, reapply at my firm / interview at a few other places, and just pick a firm from there that feels like a good fit and the pay is where I want it.

If your group is busy with work and understaffed, then it should be highly incentivized to pay their staff market comp to retain them. If they haven't, then what does thay say about them? It's a two way street, my friend. You have to do what's best for your career and your future.

Following. I’m in this exact same position. I started as a Senior in FDD in early 2020 at $85K. I didn’t qualify for a bonus because I just missed the cutoff and I didn’t receive a raise last year (issued in November after not issuing normal raises in July). So I’ve been at the same $85K for 18 months now. I was okay with it last year because I had significant downtime due to COVID. But after seeing some of these threads and speaking to peers who have left the firm, I feel like I’m quite below market now. I personally have a hunch that there will be a gap between what they offer for a raise and where I think I should be (in the $100-ish range). If I were you, rather than spend time studying for and taking the CPA (and losing $20-25K salary over that time), take advantage of this job market and apply at other firms NOW. It seems like every FDD practice is hurting for people, so you should be able to get into the pay range you’re seeking…possibly even higher. I like RSM and my team as well…and I’m grateful for the opportunity and experience they’ve given me, but I can’t sell myself short and continue working for 10% or so under market. Especially with the current climate where deal flow/chargeability is high and the firm is making money hand over fist. The new salary shouldn’t just be thought of as being compensated for what you did in the past, it also shows good faith in the work you’re going to do for them over the next year. Build your case to them for the range you want/deserve and if they can’t accommodate, then find someone who will.

Hit me up for Deloitte referral. We're looking for experienced candidates and offering attractive comp plus signing bonus. From my experience, the only way you'll get market comp is through an external offer. I'm sure most people on here would agree.

Received raise + market adjustment... now at 98k base salary. Looks like I'll be sticking around.

Not sure about middle market. But at Big4 it's at least a $115K base in Chicago.
