Analyst

No. As long as you’re billing to a project it doesn’t matter. If you’re on the bench currently and denying projects then yeah maybe

What’s your utilization ? If it’s bad and you keep turning down work then yeah you’ll get fired lol

97% right now.

If you're analyst and you been here for two years already no you can't afford turn down projects. 1-2 years max as a analyst then it's time to move on. You two year in you should be up for promotion and the only way you get one is with project support. You're not earning any bonus as a analyst, get to solution specialist then while staffed start looking.

True no up and out but why you want to sit as analyst for the rest of your life or longer then needed? Crap pay and no bonus? Get that bumm in gear and get to ss then stay coasting if that's your gig. Solution associate like almost nobody is that level, I became aware of that level because I got a coachee at that level a few years ago. Looking at scatterplot chart there was like maybe a whole 50 of them last year. So yeah move up or lose out. Firm might not care but people complain how bad the pay is but they aren't willing to do what they need to to climb.

If you’re on the bench and turning down projects, it’s not ideal. We’re sold out as a firm on resources and turning down being staffed is noticed. Reach out to your coach or talent group deputy. They may be able to help you navigate towards a project better suited for you. But it’s unwise to turn down multiple projects. Not to mention your utilization dropping.

Make rejection decisions wisely. You can reject projects if that’s not in-line with your aspirations.Once you commit and enter the dragon it’s difficult to get out. If you manage to get out it would come along with serious costs and consequences. So better reject now than later. However settle down at somewhere you think is the best possible fit.

I also started my career 20 yrs ago as a recept/exec assist and gained a lot of values + habits from those days I still use. What would you say is the biggest lesson you carry with you from then?

I see plenty of people go for a walk during the day, yet I hardly see any of my EY teammates appear “away” for 15/20+ minutes. I recognize that not everyone is in consulting, but can’t imagine that *none* of those walking are. Asking as a relative newcomer to the workforce: Is it acceptable to be away from work for more than just a few minutes, regardless of industry? If so, how can I feel comfortable stepping away to prioritize my health and well-being when so few of my teammates do so?
