Sad day for our friends down the street at McGarrah Jessee in Austin. Reports indicate 18 more let go today in their second wave of lay-offs. Some great and talented people are now available. Look after them if you can.

With TraceyLocke’s layoffs and TRG’s likely upcoming layoffs ON TOP of 2020 reduced hiring and the holiday season fast approaching I feel awful for so many TX ad folks... the job market is about to get incredibly competitive.

Can anybody post the text to the adage announcement on it? All I can see is they’re strangely whitewashing it as 10% when it’s actually more like 15%. Same with first round of lay-offs, it was 10% and they PR’d it as 3%. It’s hard times, just be honest. You dishonor those laid off by not counting them.

The people from McJ are amazing - if y’all are willing to relocate to RVA I can try to help u out.

Yeah, they got slayed—but this wasn’t Covid—it was horrible management.

Covid probably put some gas on the fire, but seems like this culling of tenured employees and slimming down of agency capabilities (whole ux dept) was always the goal of new management. They’ve created a large C-level team that, in my experience, create more chaos than vision or inspiration. They’ve been more focused on process and reorganization than winning business and that’s how we got here. McJ certainly isn’t the McGarrah Jessee of 10 years ago. But if you’re interested in working at a small, regional agency that no longer has a strong creative POV trying to turn itself into the next W+K it’s probably a great opportunity?

Yikes! The job market is already extremely competitive. Now there’s even more. I’m seeing over 1000 people apply for meh jobs.

Is it lack of new business?

Can only guess so.

Ugh that sucks. Considering moving there and would be nice to consider work in my field, I’d go to any city.

Currently at FAANG in a Client Solutions role. I’ve been here for 6 months, have the opportunity to potentially transition to BizOps or Product (in title, work is more implementation focused) in 6 months. Just got a Sales Strategy offer for a tech company but not FAANG. I like the team, pay is equal, and it’s remote with monthly travel. Scared of burning FAANG bridge with potential move out but also dislike my role because I hate sales and want to do strategy work. Thoughts?

For the main Java roles there are cloud related skills (at least in the requirements for position) there...thanks
