I share your frustration with this reaction, OP. Even if there were “equally qualified” male and female candidates up for promotion, the sheer fact that the female has comparable achievements to the male implies that the female has worked, hustled, and finessed harder than her male counterpart. I don’t think that’s a bias or giving an unfair advantage to women. I think it’s recognition that it is systematically more difficult for women to reach these heights and therefore greater credit is due

likehelpful

^Agree. Generally speaking we do have to work harder to get to the same place, and that is generally under recognized by our male peers in my experience.

Pls don’t feel offended, I think your colleague voiced his opinion maybe out of frustration or worry for himself. As much as you voiced your opinion, others in the forum did that too.
See, you make it to selection on your capability and if your org has some such policy in place that helps push women forward then why take so much offense. I don’t think it’s a bad thing. It’s actually helping in avoiding gender based discrimination and helping women grow in your org.
I don’t understand your issue. Sorry if you think now m offensive coz I am simply not just agreeing here.

At least they are acknowledging that you are “equally qualified”. Often times as a black woman I hear that I’m not qualified and that I was a diversity hire. There’s still work to be done, but slowly but surely we’re all getting there.

like

I don’t want to detract from how you’re feeling bc this is about how you’re feeling right now.

When you deal with men with these perspectives, just show them why you’re qualified. Getting emotional and upset gives into their biases. #HardTruth

There's alot to unpack here. I can understand why what your colleague said can come off insensitive because obviously you are skilled and talented and you qualify possibly even over qualify.

d4 is just an insensitive ahole and d5 is clueless. I think d3 delivery could be improved but his point still stands. He recognizes you're qualified and why such a program would exist.

The higher you go in your career the more haters you'll get.

I am a new teacher(15 years as a para) I just started this year in middle school. I have some really disrespectful and disruptive behaviors in two of my classes. Ignoring instructions, being loud and blurting out. Getting other students going. I am so sad for the ones that want to learn! I have called home and will again tomorrow. I just don’t know how to gain respect from these few students. Any feedback would be great.

He doesn’t have a lot of friends and is a quiet type. His current friends are all our mutual friends. We do enjoy spending time just us two a lot, especially during this pandemic. However, I do have a group of colleagues/friends that I’m close to and usually prefer to hang with them seperately. (cont. in comment)

Do you think it’s fair to pay full price for a missed appointment? Long story short, I lost track of time by 30 minutes. I tried to renegotiate so she brought it down to $115. Does this seem fair? Looking for other perspectives

I got to know someone thru work, and flirted a bit over 1 week. Then we never spoke again because of work geography. He reached out this week after 9 months+ asking for a visa sponsor to take a vacay in my country (given mobility restriction these days), and asked me to hook him up with a business visa referral letter thru my connections. He also said he’s coming with gf. I said im happy to write him a personal reference letter, but wont be able to get him a business one. Is this rude?

I’m dating someone new and it is going very well. He is kind, not high strung, with great values and shares my sense of humor. It is so easy and natural to spend multiple days with him.
Still I am having doubts because I think he isn’t very “intellectual”. To be clear, he’s intelligent! He is a great STEM role that requires an advanced degree. We share a love of reading as well. However he is not really interested in world affairs, does not follow the news closely, does not have a strong grasp

Has anyone else had a really hard time online dating with Covid? I’m aware things are getting better but I prefer to do outdoor first dates to be on the safe side. No judgement to anyone that does differently. It’s just what I feel comfortable with. I’ve had a few guys tell me they won’t do outdoor dates for some reason… some have cited weather but others legit say no (in 70 weather) because it’s a hassle & “Covid is a joke.” Please tell me if this is normal.
