I share your frustration with this reaction, OP. Even if there were “equally qualified” male and female candidates up for promotion, the sheer fact that the female has comparable achievements to the male implies that the female has worked, hustled, and finessed harder than her male counterpart. I don’t think that’s a bias or giving an unfair advantage to women. I think it’s recognition that it is systematically more difficult for women to reach these heights and therefore greater credit is due
^Agree. Generally speaking we do have to work harder to get to the same place, and that is generally under recognized by our male peers in my experience.

Pls don’t feel offended, I think your colleague voiced his opinion maybe out of frustration or worry for himself. As much as you voiced your opinion, others in the forum did that too.
See, you make it to selection on your capability and if your org has some such policy in place that helps push women forward then why take so much offense. I don’t think it’s a bad thing. It’s actually helping in avoiding gender based discrimination and helping women grow in your org.
I don’t understand your issue. Sorry if you think now m offensive coz I am simply not just agreeing here.
At least they are acknowledging that you are “equally qualified”. Often times as a black woman I hear that I’m not qualified and that I was a diversity hire. There’s still work to be done, but slowly but surely we’re all getting there.
I don’t want to detract from how you’re feeling bc this is about how you’re feeling right now.
When you deal with men with these perspectives, just show them why you’re qualified. Getting emotional and upset gives into their biases. #HardTruth
There's alot to unpack here. I can understand why what your colleague said can come off insensitive because obviously you are skilled and talented and you qualify possibly even over qualify.
d4 is just an insensitive ahole and d5 is clueless. I think d3 delivery could be improved but his point still stands. He recognizes you're qualified and why such a program would exist.
The higher you go in your career the more haters you'll get.
