Wa alaykum alsalam! As a Muslim woman with hijab, it’s been wonderful Alhamdulillah. There are challenges (like gently teaching your entire org that drinking is not a team building activity, some micro-aggressions and racist comments etc). I know there are a few Muslim women PPMDs around here as well so hopefully they chime in with their experiences.
Bitawfeeq inshallah.
Absolutely fine. Unlike a lot of places in Europe US is a lot more hijab friendly esp if you are in places like NYC, Boston, DC, California and Seattle.
I second this, I'm a male and have spent some time in London and have known hijabi non hijabi women The US is much better and nothing like what hijabi women have to put up with in the UK

I’m a hijabi in the US and feel like I had a pretty successful run in consulting. There’s definitely a few of us around, but the reality is that it’s a slightly more difficult path because you’ll be visibly Muslim and the unfortunate recipient of some conscious and unconscious biases. I’ve found that I’ve had to work harder to get to know and build trust with my colleagues and clients. Especially in consulting which really relies on personal relationships to get ahead. And I think there may be a bit of ceiling you’ll have to work to break, because there just aren’t that many hijabi leaders in corporate America.
Happy to share with you my feelings and experiences. Feel free to DM.
Wualaykum ussalam warahmatullah. I have seen few hijabis in consulting and plenty of woman in corp roles. As a male, I don’t want to say what’s it’s like being a hijabi in this industry but from what I’ve seen, most hijabi woman choose not to stick in consulting due to the lifestyle esp after marriage/trying to raise a family. I’m not sure if anything I said was helpful but I commend you for staying true to your faith. May Allah make it easy for you. Ameen!
Thank you so much for your kind words ! And yeah I dont plan on staying in consulting too long, Im married and building a family already, and I know how consulting can be hard go manage with a full family life. But its good to know it can still be possible for a few years, until I do something else incha Allah
The US is completely open and welcoming to that. I'd recommend the East Coast like DC, NY and Boston!
This is firm dependent as well. If you work for a diverse firm it should be no problem but others you may face issues. Since Muslims constitute of a small percentage of the population of the US and apart from major cities the population by and large is not that diverse
I'm a hijabi in the UK also from a country where hijabs weren't allowed in consulting (Nigeria, ex KPMG). More than the acceptance of hijab in the UK is the respect for religious beliefs and companies actually creating ablution spaces and prayer rooms. I've seen this consistently even at client offices
Hello my fellow african sister 🥰 Thank you so much for this response
In the UK, in London it's completely fine. However, in general most muslim women dont tend to stay in consulting very long due to the lifestyle. I left consulting after a few years.
I understand. I myself dont plan on working in Consulting for too long. Thank you very much for the info !
I know hijabis who are consultants at Accenture! The US Muslim ERG at Accenture is pretty strong and there’s a good support system if you have questions or need resources
WaAlaikum AsSalam, as a hijabi in the consulting world it is much refreshing to meet another fellow hijabi/Muslim sister! I worked at a firm before where I was the only Muslim I knew and also on teams where there is a large group of Muslims! The experiences can vary and honestly no non-Muslim has ever made me feel different because of my hijab. It has actually worked to my advantage because I’ve had folks actually respect me more because of my ability to balance my faith and work in the fast paced environment. Stay true to your purpose - it does get hard some days but remember it’s what Allah wants :) iA wish you best of luck! Feel free to DM if you want to chat more.
Yes! Me & I love it. I like wearing my hijab and getting things done in the corporate world. Just makes it feel all that much better💜
